DESCARGAR Y ESCUCHAR AQUÍ: O LEER AQUÍ... LA DEFINICIÓN HABITUAL La locura suele definirse como un estado de disociación de la realidad. Este estado suele representarse en el cine, y describirse en la literatura, como acompañado de la incapacidad de la persona para gestionar su supuesta “no-realidad” - lo que resulta en un comportamiento inestable, inapropiadamente reactivo, abrumado, inseguro, compensatorio, incluso absurdo. Pero no tiene por qué ser así. Alguien puede estar completamente loc@ (disociad@ de la percepción colectiva de la realidad), y ser perfectamente capaz de gestionar su supuesta “no-realidad”. De hecho, ya sea por su inocencia o astucia, su locura puede incluso pasar desapercibida para quienes lo rodean. Yo, por ejemplo, soy uno de es@s loc@s. De l@s astut@s, quizás. No vivo dentro de la realidad colectiva. Veo que casi tod@s sí, pero no les molesto. En cualquier caso, según mi experiencia, a la mayoría no les interesa el estado del No-Saber Absoluto, el estado de Misterio Sagrado en el que vivo - mi exquisita y bendita supuesta “no-realidad”. ¿MI NO-REALIDAD? ¡TU NO-REALIDAD! Decir que alguien (o que una sociedad) está loc@ (por estar "disociad@ de la realidad") presupone conocimiento de la naturaleza de la realidad. Decir "estás disociad@ de la realidad" significa que creemos poseer un conocimiento preciso de la naturaleza absoluta de la realidad, o de la existencia. Si no lo tuviéramos - ¿cómo podríamos decir que alguien (o que una sociedad) está disociad@ de ella y, por lo tanto, loc@? Pero ¿la conocemos? ¿Conocemos realmente la realidad? ¿O la percibimos a través de facultades limitadas y falibles (físicas, intelectuales, etc) - y por lo tanto solo podemos llegar a conclusiones limitadas y falibles sobre su naturaleza absoluta? ¿Y podemos entonces concluir (con cordura) que la realidad es un misterio, más allá de nuestra conceptualización? ¿Y podemos, por lo tanto, decir que es presuntuoso y exagerado; engañoso o, en el mejor de los casos, tonto; y, en última instancia, demente (loco) afirmar conocer la naturaleza absoluta de la realidad? Y dado que todas las culturas dominantes del mundo actual afirman conocer la naturaleza absoluta de la realidad - ¿no podemos decir que todas están locas? Sí, creo que sí. El Materialismo Científico (el concepto de realidad compartido tanto por las Democracias Occidentales como por el Comunismo Centralizado), y el Monoteísmo (el concepto de realidad compartido por los Estados Islámicos y los sectores del Cristianismo que quedan en el mundo "occidental") afirman, ambos, conocer la naturaleza absoluta de la realidad. Puede que las culturas diferentes tengan realidades diferentes (lo que, por definición, significa que se ven unas a otras como locas), pero en los términos en los que estamos hablando - ¡todas están locas! Todas, ridículamente, a pesar de las evidentes limitaciones de la percepción humana en todos los niveles - físico, intelectual, emocional e intuitivo - se autoengañan, ignoran los limites de nuestra conceptualización, fabrican y habitan conceptos arbitrarios de la realidad - y luego los propagan como certeza existencial. Si eso no es una locura, ¿qué lo es? LA CORDURA SALVARÁ AL MUNDO ¿Qué digo entonces? ¿Que si todo el mundo estuviera tan loco como yo, el mundo estaría cuerdo? ¡Sí! ¿Que si las personas fueran honestas consigo mismas y con l@s demás y admitieran que no saben - que esta realidad en la que nos encontramos está más allá de nuestra capacidad de definición - que estamos dentro y formamos parte de Un Misterio Vasto - habría unidad en la Tierra? ¡Sí! ¿Que si las personas realmente aceptaran el No Saber, se darían cuenta de que tod@s desconocemos - igualmente? ¿Que se darían cuenta de que tod@s estamos en la misma situación existencial... Que estamos tod@s igualmente aquí... Que nadie existe más que otr@... Que tod@s somos iguales? ¡Sí! ¿Y creo que eso va a suceder? ¡No! Bueno, no mañana. E incluso si todas las culturas dominantes del mundo comenzaran mañana con la educación existencial - empezando a ayudar a las personas a afrontar su Miedo a lo Desconocido, a aceptarlo y a ser amables con Él - incluso entonces, creo que se necesitarían varias generaciones para que la cordura salvara al mundo. Mientras tanto, como he dicho, no molesto a quienes no quieren ser molestad@s. Y escribo esto para ti, la persona que ha leído hasta el final – y por lo tanto ¡claramente quiere ser molestada! Y a ti te digo: me resulta esclarecedor reconocer que, al caminar por los pueblos y las ciudades de nuestra época, estoy transitando un Estado de Locura Colectiva - en el que el pensamiento, el sentimiento y el comportamiento de la mayoría surgen de una comprensión delirante de la realidad. Y me pregunto "¿co-crearían las personas que vivíeran dentro del Gran Misterio una fealdad urbano-industrial tan anti-natural, y una atmósfera tan funcional y superficial que a mi me resulta aterradora?" No lo creo. Así que ten claridad. Mira dónde estás. ¡Manténte cuerd@! Y por experiencia propia te puedo decir: cuanto más me desprendo del "saber" - más sagrado me parece todo. Winter approaches. A time for reflection... Where am I in my life? How was 2025 - externally, internally - for me? Where do I want to go from here - externally, internally - in 2026? * I would like to offer you the option of becoming more involved in The Conscious Tribes Movement. I believe The Conscious Tribes Movement is a unique, profound, personal and social contribution to our collective evolution - and that for almost anyone, getting involved would be mind-opening, heart-opening, deeply supportive, and transformative even at the level of everyday life. Yes, that´s a lot! So what´s so special about The Conscious Tribes Movement? * We are pioneering the possibility of The Tribe! Rather than asking people to go and live in a Community or Eco-village, we are bringing the Community and Eco-village to the people! We are pioneering The Tribe - “the non-biological extended family” - so that people can live in community where they already are! We are pioneering (not just The Tribe), but The Conscious Tribe. We are teaching and sharing the philosophy of Radical Honesty (the path of learning to live within one´s own reality) that enables people to travel a conscious path through life, together – without any conflict between their different beliefs. DOWNLOAD & LISTEN HERE OR READ HERE... THE USUAL DEFINITION Madness is usually defined as a state of disassociation from reality. Such a state is usually portrayed in the cinema, and described in literature, as being accompanied by a person´s inability to manage their so-called “not-reality” – resulting in behaviour that is unstable, inappropriately reactive, overwhelmed, insecure, compensatory, absurd even. But that need not be the case. Someone might be completely mad (disassociated from the collective perception of reality), and perfectly capable of managing their so-called “not-reality”. In fact, whether due to their innocence or astuteness - their madness might even go unnoticed by those around them. I, for example, am one such madman. One of the astute ones, perhaps. I do not live inside the collective reality. I see almost everyone does - but I don´t bother them. Anyway, in my experience, most of them aren´t interested in the state of Absolute Not-Knowing, the state of Sacred Mystery, in which I live – my exquisite, blessed so-called “not-reality”. ME NOT-REALITY? YOU NOT-REALITY! To say someone (or a society) is mad (because they are “disassociated from reality”) presumes knowledge as to the nature of reality. To say “you are disassociated from reality” means we think we possess accurate knowledge as to the absolute nature of reality, or existence. If we didn´t - how could we say someone (or a society) was disassociated from it, and therefore mad? But do we? Do we really know reality? Or do we perceive reality through limited and fallible faculties (physical, intellectual, etc) - and are we therefore only able to arrive at limited and fallible conclusions as to its absolute nature? And can we therefore only conclude (sanely) that reality is a mystery, beyond our conceptualising? And can we therefore say it is presumptuous and inflated; deceitful or at best foolish; and ultimately insane (mad) to claim to know the absolute nature of reality? And since all of the dominant cultures in the world today claim to know the absolute nature of reality – can we not say they are all mad? Yes, I think we can. Scientific Materialism (the concept of reality shared both by Western Democracies and Centralised Communism), and Monotheism (the concept of reality shared by the Islamic States and the pockets of Christianity remaining in the ´western´ world) both claim to know the absolute nature of reality. Different cultures might have differing realities (which, by definition, means they see each other as mad), but in the terms in which we are talking – they are all mad! They all, ridiculously, despite the self-evident limitations of human perception at every level – physical, intellectual, emotional and intuitive - nevertheless self-deceive, ignore the limitations of our conceptualising, fabricate and inhabit arbitrary concepts of reality - and then propagate them as existential certainty. If thats´s not nuts – what is!? SANITY WILL SAVE THE WORLD So what am I saying? That if everyone was as mad as me the world would be sane? Yes! That if people were honest with themselves and each other and admitted they didn´t know – that this reality in which we find ourselves is beyond our capacities to define – that we are inside and part of A Vast Mystery – there would be unity on Earth? Yes! That if people truly embraced Not Knowing they would realise that we all don´t know – equally? That they would realise we are all in the same existential situation... That we are all equally here... That nobody exists more than anyone else... That we are all equal? Yes! And do I believe that is going to happen? No! Well, not tomorrow. And even if every one of the world´s dominant cultures began existential education tomorrow – beginning to help people face their Fear of The Unknown, and embrace their fear, and be kind to their fear – even then, it would take various generations, I believe, for sanity to save the world. Meanwhile, as I say, I don´t bother those who don´t want to be bothered. And I write this for you, the person who has read to the end – and clearly, therefore, wants to be bothered! And to you I say: I find it clarifying to acknowledge that as I walk through the towns and cities of our era I am walking through a State of Collective Insanity – in which most people´s thinking, feeling and behaviour is arising from a delusional understanding of reality. And I ask myself “would people who were living inside The Great Mystery have co-created such unnatural urban-industrial ugliness, and an atmosphere that is so functional and superficial that I find it frightening?” I don´t think so. So be clear. See where you are. Stay sane! And from my own experience I can tell you: the more and more I let go of “knowing” - the more sacred everything seems to me. There is still time for manoeuvre – to create parallel cultures, free-thinking cultures that run alongside the dominant cultures. But nobody can create a culture by themselves. We need each other. We need tribe. But to form a tribe means commitment. So each of us needs to ask if we´re prepared to make the effort – if it´s what we really want. Coincidieron en que no sabían si realmente se entendían - sin embargo todos sentían que recordar no haber sido era recordar bailar en el jardín de Dios - que recordar bailar en el jardín de Dios era recordar no haber sido - y que recordar no haber sido era recordar ser la libertad misma. * Notas Sobre UNA CARTA DE AMOR AL BUDA La Exquisita Paradoja de Nuestra Singularidad y Unidad En este poema escribo, principalmente, sobre la Honestidad Radical, La Paradoja y La Intuición de La Unidad. Parto de la percepción de que cada un@ vive dentro de su propia realidad única, con su propia perspectiva única (el principio que denomino La Honestidad Radical). Desde este punto de vista, nunca puedo estar seguro de si te siento/entiendo. Porque yo no soy tú. No estoy experimentando tu experiencia. Solo tengo mi propio sentir/entendimiento de lo que sea que estés tratando de comunicarme. Incluso si dices que sientes que te he sentido/entendido perfectamente, eso no es algo de lo que puedas estar seguro - porque solo tienes tu propio sentir/entendimiento de mi sentir/entendimiento de ti. Si existiera un Ojo Que Todo Lo Ve, ese Ojo podría decir “sí, os estáis sintiendo/entendiendo exactamente como cada un@ se está sintiendo/entendiendo a sí mism@”. Pero como los seres individuales que somos - eso no es algo que podemos afirmar. Además, debido a la singularidad de cada personalidad, no sé si eso es algo que incluso un Ojo Que Todo Lo Ve podría afirmar - porque no sé si tal exactitud de sentimiento/entendimiento existe. (Pero dejemos eso para otra ocasión....) Entonces... l@s tres sabi@s en el parque de la ciudad son conscientes de que cada individuo vive en su propia realidad. Sin embargo, de sus tres maneras diferentes, tod@s sienten que han experimentado algo más allá de su realidad individual, única y limitada. En el poema escribo que “han experimentado” (es decir, recuerdan la experiencia) de haber existido más allá de sus personalidades individuales. Esto se debe a que creo que si estuvieran (1) sin un sentido de ser (como en el Monismo, el Budismo, el Vedanta, etc.), o (2) la alegría misma bailando en el jardín de Dios (como en el Teísmo, el Sufismo, el Bhakti, el Judeo-Cristianismo, etc.), o (3) la libertad misma (como en las Tradiciones Indígenas, el Paganismo, el Animismo, etc.), no podrían hablar. Identificad@s “como todo” o “como una gota/chispa/ola/niñ@ unificad@ de todo” estamos más allá del habla. Tenemos que “volver” a nuestras personalidades, “separarnos de vuelta” a nuestras individualidades limitadas - antes de que podamos comunicarnos como un individuo con otro individuo. Sin embargo, tod@s parecen llevar consigo el aroma de lo transpersonal, del encuentro divino, de la experiencia trascendente, de la expansión más allá de los límites de la personalidad condicionada - y lo intuyen un@s en otr@s. Por eso coinciden en que “somos y no somos” quienes parecemos ser. Tod@s sienten que viven y mueren como las personas que son y, sin embargo, simultáneamente, están más allá de tal definición y limitación. Entonces... y sin querer despojar a la paradoja de su intensidad - creo que es importante reconocer que, por un lado, estamos dentro de realidades individuales, diferentes, limitadas – y por otro lado, honrar nuestra intuición de que más allá de nuestras realidades individuales somos inseparables... Nuestra intuición de que la existencia es atemporal, y que por lo tanto estamos junt@s para siempre... Nuestra intuición de que Sólo Hay Un Todo - y estamos hech@s de él. ¿Por qué creo que es importante la paradoja de que somos a la vez ´inunificablemente-diferentes´ e ´inseparablemente-uno´? Porque una vez que nos abrimos a ella (no intelectualmente, sino intuitivamente) llegamos a honrarnos verdaderamente a nosotr@s mism@s y a honrarnos verdaderamente un@s a otr@s - y esta paradoja es, por lo tanto, la semilla de las comunidades, culturas y civilizaciones que tant@s sentimos que ahora necesitamos co-crear. ¿Y cómo llegamos a experimentar esta paradoja? Yo mismo vivo y enseño este enfoque simple: cuando la Honestidad Radical no es sólo un principio (una idea), sino un camino (una exploración vivida) - nos lleva allí. Al permanecer presentes en nuestra propia realidad única (nuestra propia experiencia del momento), y dejar de preocuparnos por cómo otr@s puedan estar experimentando el momento (porque entendemos que, de todas maneras, eso es algo que nunca podremos saber) - caemos a través de las capas de nuestra resistencia a lo que realmente estamos experimentando, y gradualmente aterrizamos cada vez más profundamente dentro de nuestra propia realidad. Nuestra realidad, como entonces llegamos a sentir y ver, es indefinible, un misterio sagrado - y nos sentimos humildes y nos inunda un placer energético. Al "ir por libre", al abrazar plenamente nuestra soledad (la singularidad de nuestra realidad), nos adentramos en todo, encontramos a Dios, nos convertimos en libertad... (Para mí, las palabras exactas no importan, porque solo son indicadores de una experiencia que trasciende las palabras.) Creo que por eso el filósofo metafísico Plotino escribió "la vida es el vuelo de la soledad hacia la Soledad". Y por eso las últimas palabras de Buda fueron "sé una lámpara para ti mism@, sé un refugio para ti mism@, no busques refugio externo". Aterrizando cada vez más pesada y sólidamente en el suelo de nuestra realidad única, paradójicamente, sentimos nuestra pertenencia inalienable. Nos sentimos a la vez individuos únicos y diferenciados y, simultáneamente - inseparablemente arraigad@s en el Gran Misterio de la Existencia: sentimos que somos, y que tod@s somos, y que cada criatura viviente es - una expresión única e individual del Gran Misterio. Y finalmente, para concluir, como ya he dicho, para mí, esto no es solo una cuestión de “crecimiento personal” - de interés para quienes estamos en el camino de la sanación o el auto-conocimiento. Para mí, la exquisita paradoja de nuestra singularidad-y-unidad debe ser la preocupación fundamental y fundacional de cualquier movimiento dedicado a la reforma social. No creo que ningún movimiento político o ecológico pueda crear una alternativa a nuestras actuales civilizaciones globales desacralizadas y distópicas a menos que esté basado en la comprensión de la Honestidad Radical (la comprensión de que “cada un@ vive dentro de su propia realidad única”), y ofrezca educación experiencial en Honestidad Radical a nuestr@s hij@s, y haga de la devoción al camino de la Honestidad Radical un requisito previo para la selección a cualquier puesto de responsabilidad o liderazgo social. * “SÉ UNA LÁMPARA PARA TI MISM@, SÉ UN REFUGIO PARA TI MISM@. For one remembered not being. Another how she had been joy dancing in the garden of God. And the third still felt the wind in his feathers from when he had flown as an eagle - and been freedom itself. “And yet these selves we are and are not must speak” they agreed. And so they spoke, slowly, carefully. Very carefully. Tenderly. City days died, and city nights were born. City nights died, and city days were born. The sages in the park who were are were not who they were spoke of time that was and wasn´t, of worlds that were and were not - and of caring, and not caring. And although they felt they understood each other, they agreed they weren´t certain they did. City days died, and the three sages in the park died - together. City nights were born, and the three sages in the park were born - together. They agreed they didn´t know if they did in fact understand each other - and yet they all felt that to remember not existing was to remember dancing in the garden of God - that to remember dancing in the garden of God was to remember not existing - and that to remember not existing was to remember being freedom itself. * Notes On A LOVE LETTER TO THE BUDDHA The Exquisite Paradox of Our Uniqueness and Oneness In this poem I write, principally, about Radical Honesty, Paradox, and The Intuition of Oneness. I start out from the perception that each of us lives within our own unique reality, with our own unique perspective (the understanding I call Radical Honesty). From this point of view I can never be sure I feel/understand you. Because I am not you. I am not experiencing your experience. I only ever have my own feeling/understanding of whatever it is you´re trying to communicate to me. Even if you say you feel I have felt/understood you perfectly, that is not something you can be sure of – because you only have your own feeling/understanding of my feeling/understanding of you. If there was an All Seeing Eye, that Eye might be able to say “yes, you are feeling/understanding each other exactly as each of you is feeling/understanding themselves”. But as the unique individuals we are – that´s not something we ourselves can affirm. Whatsmore, due to the uniqueness of every personality, I don´t know if that´s even something an All Seeing Eye could affirm – because I don´t know if such exact feeling/understanding exists. (But let´s leave that for another time....) So.... the three sages in the city park are aware that every individual lives in their own reality. And yet, in their three different ways, they all feel they have experienced something beyond their unique, limited, individual reality. In the poem I write that they “have experienced” (i.e. they remember the experience) of existing beyond their individual personalities. This is because I believe that if they were (1) not existing (as in Monism, Buddhism, Vedanta, etc), or (2) joy itself dancing in the garden of God (as in Theism, Sufism, Bhakti, Judeo-Christianity, etc), or (3) freedom itself (as in Indigenous traditions, Paganism, Animism, etc) they would not be able to speak. In identification “as everything” or “as a unified drop/spark/wave/child of everything” we are beyond speaking. We need to “come back” to our personalities, to “separate back into” our limited individualities - before we can communicate as one individual to another individual.. Nevertheless, they all seem to carry the scent of the transpersonal, of divine encounter, of transcendent experience, of expansion beyond the confines of the conditioned personality – and they intuit this in each other. This is why they all agree “we are and are not” who we appear to be. They all feel they are their bodies and personalities - and yet that they are not. They all feel that they are living and dying as the people they are – and yet that, simultaneously, they are beyond such definition and limitation. So... and without wishing to strip paradox of its poignancy – I believe it is important to recognise that, on the one hand, we are inside different, limited, individual realities – and on the other hand, to honour our intuition that beyond our individual realities we are inseparable... Our intuition that existence is atemporal, and that therefore we are together forever... Our intuition that there is Only One Whole – and we are made of it. Why do I feel the paradox that we are both un-joinably different, and inseparably-one is important? Because once we open to it (not intellectually, but intuitively) we come to both truly honour ourselves, and truly honour each other – and that this paradox is therefore the seed of the communities, cultures and civilisations that so many of us feel we now need to co-create. But how do we arrive at the experience of this paradox? I myself live and teach this simple approach: that when Radical Honesty is not just a principle (an idea), but a path (a lived exploration) – it leads us there. Staying present to our own unique reality (our own experience of the moment), and no longer concerning ourselves with how others might be experiencing the moment (because we feel that´s not something we can ever know anyway) – we fall through the layers of our resistance to what we are actually experiencing, and gradually land more and more profoundly within our own reality. Our reality, we then come to feel and see, is beyond definition, a sacred mystery – and we are humbled and washed through by an energetic pleasure. By “going it alone”, by fully embracing our aloneness (the uniqueness of our reality), we enter everything, we meet God, we become freedom... (For me, the exact words are not important - because they are only pointers towards an experience beyond words.) I believe that this is why the metaphysical philosopher Plotinus wrote “life is the flight of the alone to the Alone”. And this is why the Buddha´s last words were “be a lamp unto yourself, be a refuge to yourself, take yourself to no external refuge”. Landing more and more heavily and solidly on the ground of our own unique reality, paradoxically, we feel our inalienable belonging. We feel we are both unique, discrete individuals and, simultaneously - inseparably embedded within the Great Mystery of Existence: we feel we are, and that everyone is, and that every living creature is - a unique, individual expression of The Great Mystery. And finally, in conclusion, as I have said, for me, this is not just a “personal growth” matter – of interest to those of us on the path of healing or self-knowledge. For me, the exquisite paradox of our uniqueness-and-oneness needs to be the fundamental, foundational concern of any movement devoted to societal reform. I don´t believe any political or ecological movement can create an alternative to our current, desacralised, dystopical, global civilisation(s) unless it is grounded in the understanding of Radical Honesty (the understanding that “each of us lives within our own unique reality”), and offers experiential education in Radical Honesty to our children, and makes devotion to the path of Radical Honesty a prerequisite for selection to any post of social responsibility or leadership. * “BE A LAMP UNTO YOURSELF, BE A REFUGE TO YOURSELF.
