UNSUCCESSFUL REVOLUTION As I see it, all revolutionaries aim to overthrow what they see as oppression and abuse, and install a regime they believe is more humane, more caring - a regime that promises respect, and fairness. Ultimately - whatever the surface ´ism´ of a particular revolution - whether Russian (1917), Chinese (1911), French (1789 - 1799), American (1775 - 1783), Cuban (1953 - 1959), or Iranian (1979) - in their hearts, all revolutionaries believe they are on the side of goodness. What does that mean? In the last analysis, I´d say that what it comes down to is that they believe they are on the side of Universal Love. On this basis we can say that no revolution in human history has ever been successful - in as much as no revolution has ever successfully established the Reign of Universal Love on Earth. Why not – in my opinion? Because until now, no set of revolutionaries has ever been adequately trained in sustaining their capacity for Universal Love. As yet, no set of revolutionaries has adequately prepared their consciousness for such an epic endeavour. Until now, no set of revolutionaries has even contemplated the possibility that the long-term success of the new regime they seek to install will depend entirely on the degree to which they themselves, and people in general - having educated themselves not only psycho-emotionally, but spiritually or existentially - have become able to consistently choose Universal Love. IDEALISTIC TWADDLE To those among us who have little or no experience of the transformation of their own psyche and awareness, these words might sound (at best) like idealistic, utopian ramblings, or (at worst) like absurd spiritual-lunacy. Even those of us who have experienced personal transformation, or healing, or awakening of some sort might wonder whether political revolutions and the evolution of consciousness are in any way compatible. My friends - my brothers and sisters and non-binary siblings and everyone else, however you might like to think of yourself – in my opinion, even though it might take generations: it is only a question of education . However: I doubt very much that it´s an education the fundamentalistically-materialistic, machine-hearted, violently-efficient mainstream world culture will offer us. Why would it nurture its own overthrow?! I believe that nurturing the consciousness that enables us to choose Universal Love is our primary revolutionary act. Cultivating the capacity to recognise the moment-to-moment existential choice between defending and promoting our own little ego show, or acting on behalf of the whole - and cultivating the capacity to act on that choice - needs to become our daily, self-educational, self-transformational, revolutionary commitment. And for me, this is not a private matter. Sociologists talk about "the privatisation of spirituality" - the removal of overtly spiritual/existential concerns from the market place and from the political arena. "Meditate in private, if you like" is the message, "but keep it to yourself. And please don´t bring it to the office!" No! How can we cultivate consciousness and Universal Love alone? We need each other. We need communities. And I say ´communities´ and not ´support groups´, because support groups can be easily, neatly bolted onto the A.I-infatuated, techno-intoxicated, production-and-progress-obsessed, centralisation and CCTV and control-obsessed, global mainstream. "Sure, do a little healing on the side! Why not?! What harm can it do?! Just don´t be late for work tomorrow morning!" Personally, I refuse to be segregated like that! I believe there are circumstances that favour the evolution of consciousness, and circumstances that thwart it.... Local community. Deep relationships. Responsibility for our locality. Contact with nature - with the trees, the animals, the insects and birds... with the weather, with the waxing and waning moons, with the equinoxes and solstices. Time out, down time, holy-days. Celebration, appreciation, gratitude. Local, poison-free food. Poison-free water. Creativity and contribution (as against wage slavery). I believe all of these things favour the evolution and transformation of consciousness - and that asphalt, street lights, traffic noise, plastic food, work-work-work, and junk, escapist entertainment don´t. So here I see a second revolutionary commitment: to adjust our lifestyles in ways that support and enhance our primary revolutionary commitment (the development of our capacity to choose Universal Love). LA REVOLUCIÓN NO EXITOSA Según como lo veo yo, todos l@s revolucionari@s aspiran a derrocar lo que consideran opresión y abuso, e instalar un régimen que consideren más humano, más solidario, un régimen que prometa respeto y justicia. En última instancia, cualquiera que sea el "ismo" superficial de una revolución en particular, ya sea Rusa (1917), China (1911), Francesa (1789-1799), Estadounidense (1775-1783), Cubana (1953-1959) o Iraní (1979), en sus corazones, todos l@s revolucionari@s creen que están del lado del bien. ¿Qué significa eso? En última instancia, yo diría es que creen que están del lado del Amor Universal. Sobre esta base, podemos decir que ninguna revolución en la historia humana ha tenido éxito - en la medida en que ninguna revolución ha logrado establecer con éxito el Reino del Amor Universal en la Tierra. ¿Por qué no - en mi opinión? Porque hasta ahora ningún grupo de revolucionari@s ha sido entrenado adecuadamente para mantener su capacidad de Amor Universal. Hasta ahora, ningún grupo de revolucionari@s ha preparado adecuadamente su conciencia para una empresa tan épica. Hasta ahora, ningún grupo de revolucionari@s ha contemplado siquiera la posibilidad de que el éxito a largo plazo del nuevo régimen que pretenden instalar dependa enteramente del grado en que ell@s mism@s, y la gente en general - habiéndose educado no sólo psico-emocionalmente, sino espiritual o existencialmente - hayan llegado a ser capaces de elegir consistentemente el Amor Universal. TONTERIAS IDEALISTAS Para aquell@s de nosotr@s que tienen poca o ninguna experiencia de la transformación de su propia psique y conciencia, estas palabras pueden sonar (en el mejor de los casos) como divagaciones idealistas y utópicas, o (en el peor de los casos) como una absurda locura espiritual. Incluso aquell@s de nosotr@s que hemos experimentado una transformación personal, o una sanación, o un despertar de algún tipo, podríamos preguntarnos si las revoluciones políticas y la evolución de la conciencia son de algún modo compatibles. Mis amig@s - mis hermanos, y hermanas, y hermanos no-binarios, y todos los demás, sea como sea que quieras concebirte - en mi opinión, aunque pueda llevar generaciones: es solo una cuestión de educación . Sin embargo: dudo mucho que sea una educación que la cultura dominante del mundo fundamentalistamente-materialista, de corazón mecánico y violentamente-eficiente nos ofrezca. ¿Por qué alimentaría su propio derrocamiento? Creo que nutrir la conciencia que nos permite elegir el Amor Universal es nuestro principal acto revolucionario. Cultivar la capacidad de reconocer la elección existencial, momento-a-momento, entre defender y promover nuestro propio pequeño espectáculo de ego, o actuar en nombre del todo - y cultivar la capacidad de actuar en función de esa elección - debe convertirse en nuestro compromiso diario, auto-educativo, auto-transformador, revolucionario. Y para mí, esto no es un asunto privado. L@s sociólog@s hablan de "la privatización de la espiritualidad": la eliminación de las preocupaciones abiertamente espirituales/existenciales del mercado y de la arena política. "Si quieres, medita en privado", es el mensaje "pero guárdatelo para ti. ¡Y por favor, no lo traigas a la oficina!" ¡No! ¿Cómo podemos cultivar la conciencia y el Amor Universal sol@s? Nos necesitamos. Necesitamos comunidades. Y digo "comunidades" y no "grupos de apoyo", porque los grupos de apoyo se pueden incorporar de manera fácil y ordenada a la cultura global dominante, IA-enamorada, tecno-intoxicada, producción-y-progreso hechizada, y centralización, CCTV y control obsesionada. "¡Claro, haz un poco de curación por tu cuenta! ¿Por qué no? ¿Qué daño puede hacer? ¡Sólo no llegues tarde al trabajo mañana por la mañana!". Personalmente, ¡me niego a que me segreguen de esa manera! Creo que hay circunstancias que favorecen la evolución de la conciencia y circunstancias que la frustran... Comunidad local. Relaciones profundas. Responsabilidad por nuestra localidad. Contacto con la naturaleza - con los árboles, los animales, los insectos y los pájaros... con el clima, con las lunas crecientes y menguantes, con los equinoccios y solsticios. Tiempo libre, tiempo de inactividad, días festivos. Celebración, agradecimiento, gratitud. Alimentos locales sin veneno. Agua sin veneno. Creatividad y contribución (en contraposición a la esclavitud asalariada). Creo que todo esto favorece la evolución y transformación de la conciencia - y que el asfalto, las luces de la calle, el ruido del tráfico, la comida de plástico, el trabajo-trabajo-trabajo, y el entretenimiento basura, escapista no. Así que aquí veo un segundo compromiso revolucionario: ajustar nuestros estilos de vida de manera que respalden y mejoren nuestro compromiso revolucionario primario (el desarrollo de nuestra capacidad de elegir el Amor Universal). Una pregunta que me hacen a menudo es si las Tribus Conscientes son poliamorosas... “Seguramente el Poliamor es la manera obvia, natural y fluida en la que los miembros de una Tribu Consciente se relacionarían entre sí” sugiere la gente, “después de todo, la idea es co-crear un nuevo tipo de familia, ¿no es así? Y estar completamente abiert@s un@s a otr@s...” APERTURA TOTAL & POLIAMOR En primer lugar, permíteme decir que, tal como lo entiendo, “estar completamente abiert@” a otra persona no significa necesariamente querer relacionarse sexualmente con ella. Entiendo que “estar completamente abiert@ a otra persona” significa estar abiert@ a nuestra propia experiencia física, emocional y energética mientras estamos en presencia de esa otra persona - no mantenernos apretad@s o tens@s en su presencia, ni ser resistentes a su impacto sobre nosotr@s. Entiendo “la apertura completa” como otra manera de hablar de la Honestidad Radical. Y lo entiendo como un aspecto de las Relaciones Conscientes. Puedo estar en tu presencia y experimentar irritación, agitación y rechazo surgiendo en mí. Puedo sentir una unión alegre y expansiva contigo a nivel energético, pero poca resonancia a nivel físico. Puedo sentir que tu presencia me abre a un trauma no reconocido... En otras palabras, siento que podemos estar completamente abiert@s a otra persona, profunda y confiadamente vinculad@s con ella, e incluso estar completamente comprometid@s con la misma Tribu Consciente - sin sentir que surge en nosotr@s el deseo de relacionarnos sexualmente con ella. Entonces, si por "poli + amor" queremos decir "much@s + amor", entonces, ¡sí, por supuesto que las Tribus Conscientes son Poliamorosas! O, al menos, están en el Camino del Poliamor - en el camino de aprender a vivir junt@s en el Amor Universal. Pero si por “poli + amor” en realidad queremos decir “poli + sexo” – es decir, que la norma de la Tribu Consciente es que tod@s se relacionen sexualmente con tod@s l@s demás – entonces no, las Tribus Conscientes no son intrínsecamente poliamorosas. Permíteme decirlo así: La base de la Tribu Consciente no es “estar completamente abiertos l@s un@s a l@s otr@s”, es “estar completamente abiert@s a nosotr@s mism@s” – y dentro de nuestra propia y única experiencia, podemos encontrarnos bastante cerrad@s a otra persona. Podemos sentirnos amenazad@s por su presencia, y la necesidad de protegernos. Tal vez esto se deba a que intuimos una agresión latente en ell@s (de la que, tal vez, ni siquiera son conscientes) – o tal vez estamos proyectando sobre ell@s – re-creando y re-viviendo nuestro miedo histórico a la agresión – o tal vez ambas cosas, o tal vez hay otro factor presente. Pero mi punto aquí es que “sentirse cerrad@” a alguien no contradice la dirección de la Tribu – porque la base no es “estar abiert@s l@s un@s a l@s otr@s”. De hecho, al observarnos a nosotr@s mism@s, respetar el hecho de que nos sentimos cerrad@s, y compartir honestamente sobre lo que sentimos - estamos afirmando la dirección de la Tribu, que es “estar abiert@s a nosotr@s mism@s”. La base de la Tribu Consciente es estar abiert@s a la experiencia propia, única, del momento indefinible (La Honestidad Radical), y comunicar esa experiencia de Esencia a Esencia (Las Relaciones Conscientes). Las Tribus Conscientes no se basan en el principio del Poliamor. Dicho esto, sobre esta base , una Tribu Consciente podría estructurarse como una combinación de parejas monógamas e individuos “solteros”; como un grupo completamente poliamoroso; como una mezcla de parejas monógamas, tríos y cuartetos poliamorosos y algunos individuos “solteros” - ¡de cualquier forma que elija! Eso lo debe decidir cada Tribu Consciente. UNA PALABRA DE ADVERTENCIA & LAS PREGUNTAS FUNDAMENTALES Pero (¡si me lo permites!) una advertencia: siento que si no estamos enamorad@s de nuestro propio y único momento presente, si no vemos a tod@s (ya sea que nos atraigan sexualmente o no) como expresiones hermosas, locas y únicas del Gran Misterio - entonces nuestro Poliamor no será parte de nuestra co-creación de nuevas culturas alternativas, conscientes. Será la perpetuación de la inconsciencia que decimos que buscamos superar - una inconsciencia excitante, incluso emocionante, tal vez; una liberación, tal vez; o incluso una curación - pero no será, en ningún sentido directo, la co-creación de nuevas estructuras sociales (Tribus Conscientes), o una contribución a la creación de nuevas culturas conscientes. Así que lo primero es lo primero... Y siento que lo primero es aprender a vivir junt@s en-apertura-a-nosotr@s-mism@s - y así co-crear un campo energético de Amor Universal - un amor que no es físico, que ni siquiera es emocional. Considero que se trata de un aprendizaje de todo-el-día, todos-los-días - una indagación existencial que requiere toda nuestra atención. Y para mantener este aprendizaje, diría que debemos hacernos continuamente dos preguntas fundamentales, que podríamos formular de la siguiente manera: Primera pregunta - "¿me estoy sintiendo dentro del Gran Misterio en este momento?" ¿No? Entonces - "¿qué debo hacer para volver a sentir la Belleza de mi Pertenencia, para volver a entrar en una relación consciente y cariñosa con mi cuerpo, mis emociones, mi entorno, y mi sentido energético general del momento?" Segunda pregunta: al relacionarme con esta otra persona - "¿estoy sintiendo el Misterio de su Unicidad y estoy sintiendo el mío propio?" ¿No? Entonces, -"¿qué debo hacer para volver a sentir a-la-vez nuestra Diferencia y nuestra Unidad?" Yo diría que estas son las preguntas fundamentales. Son las preguntas en las que debemos centrarnos si queremos co-crear culturas cualitativamente diferentes. Yo diría que no hay nada "malo" en el Poliamor, pero tampoco hay nada "bueno". En sí mismo puede ser tan consciente o inconsciente como la Monogamia. La cuestión no es con cuántas personas podemos o no relacionarnos sexualmente - sino cuán conscientemente nos relacionamos con tod@s - sea cual sea la forma en que nos relacionemos. Como he dicho, creo que formar una Tribu Consciente es un esfuerzo noble - un compromiso sincero y total para dar forma a nuevas culturas para nosotr@s y nuestr@s descendientes. Es realmente predicar con el ejemplo. Y ofrezco mis más profundos respetos a tod@s l@s que se embarcan en el esfuerzo. Formemos Tribus, y reunámonos regularmente, y exploremos y practiquemos todo esto junt@s. Entonces podremos unir Tribus y formar Comunidades. Y luego unir Comunidades y formar nuevas Culturas. Sí. Y... Creo que debemos ser humildes y reconocer que aún tropezamos, que entramos en la negación, que nos engañamos a nosotr@s mism@s - que nos dejamos llevar por nuestras adicciones y que fácilmente perdemos el rumbo. Así que, mientras aún estamos aprendiendo a vivir abiert@s al momento y a l@s demás, y aún estamos obsesionad@s con el pensamiento repetitivo y aún tendemos a objetivar el mundo - tengamos en cuenta que el sexo puede brindar un alivio poderoso y temporal a nuestros sentimientos de soledad y separación... ¡pero eso no significa que debamos legislar al respecto! No necesitamos establecer nuevas reglas que hagan que esté bien tener sexo con todo el mundo - ¡como si eso garantizara la eliminación de nuestros sentimientos de soledad y separación para siempre! Así que, como ya he dicho, creo que hay un camino que recorrer - junt@s - y es ahí donde debemos centrarnos. No en quién tiene sexo con quién. Que sea como sea. Y si dos personas quieren comprometerse “hasta que la muerte nos separe”, que sea como sea también. ¡No nos dejemos controlar por la reactividad a las restricciones del pasado! En mi opinión, la megacrisis global se está intensificando y las consecuencias desastrosas y auto-destructivas de nuestra inconsciencia se están volviendo cada vez más evidentes - así que comprometámonos algun@s de nosotr@s a vivir como Tribus Conscientes. Entonces, pase lo que pase, al menos las semillas de nuevas culturas alternativas estarán en la tierra. LA CELEBRACIÓN DE LO ERÓTICO Y para que quede claro: no estoy diciendo “olvídate de lo erótico, ¡primero ocúpate de estar presente!”. En mi experiencia ¡la presencia es erótica! ¡La presencia es deliciosa! Así como la ausencia es aburrida y entumecida - la presencia-al-momento está viva y tiene mil sabores. Nuestro regreso al mundo natural y a una forma de vida más natural es un regreso a nuestra conexión con el sudor del verano, el viento en nuestra piel, nuestros dedos en la tierra húmeda y todos los olores que la cultura dominante, desinfectada reprimiría... Cuando volvemos a salir al exterior, y no nos limitamos a mirar el mundo a través de las ventanas, y empezamos a rechazar la seducción pornográfica de La Vida Intramuros, y recordamos sensaciones contrastantes de comodidades e incomodidades olvidadas durante generaciones - redescubrimos nuestra relación sensual con la Tierra. Plantamos, cosechamos y cocinamos nuestra propia comida - y recordamos el sabor de las cosas. Nuestra orina y nuestros excrementos se convierten en fertilizantes y abono. Valoramos nuestra orina y nuestra mierda. Encontramos nuestros cuerpos de nuevo. No sentimos que tengamos que estar siempre limpi@s. No sentimos que no debamos oler. Amamos nuestros cuerpos de nuevo. ¡Nos des-domesticamos! Amamos nuestra desnudez - y la singularidad perfecta de cada un@. Vemos los colores de las flores. Vemos nuestra propia piel. El amanecer surge en nuestro interior. Nos ablandamos con el atardecer. La luna llena se convierte en una tormenta en nuestro interior, y la luna oscura nos vacía hacia las estrellas. Bebemos agua como gratitud líquida y, al ver a las otras criaturas beber - nos desbordamos de alegría. Vemos a las mariposas chupando el polen de las flores. Vemos a las golondrinas bailar en el aire. La vida es erótica. Somos erótic@s. Somos vida. Al alejarnos de la artificialidad - del universo de asfalto, plástico y pantallas - y comenzar a sentir el mundo nuevamente - sentimos el Misterio de la Existencia nuevamente - ¡y es increíble! ¡Un placer energético se extiende por nuestros cuerpos! Y luego, al encontrarnos con otr@ dentro del Placer de la Presencia - nuestros corazones se abren con la belleza del/de la otr@ - vemos la inocencia, la estupidez, la bondad y el dolor del/de la otr@ - ¡y la apertura de nuestros corazones es una delicia incomparable! Así que no estoy diciendo "no" al Poliamor. Tampoco estoy diciendo que "sí". Estoy diciendo lo primero, lo primero. A medida que aprendemos a vivir en nuestra experiencia única y subjetiva, nuestros cuerpos se llenan del Erotismo Natural de la Presencia. Entonces, no necesitamos sexo el para aliviar la monotonía de nuestra ausencia. Entonces - cuando hacemos el amor - nuestros intercambios sexuales no son para completarnos – son una celebración; unidad erótica; amor en juego; una apertura a todo a través de otr@... A question I am often asked is whether Conscious Tribes are polyamorous... “Surely Polyamory is the obvious, natural, flowing way in which the members of a Conscious Tribe would relate to each other” people suggest, “after all, the idea is to co-create a new kind of family, isn´t it? And to be fully open to each other...” FULL OPENNESS & POLYAMORY Firstly let me say that, as I understand it, “to be fully open” to another person doesn´t necessarily mean to want to relate sexually with them. I understand “to be fully open to another person” to mean to be open to our own physical, emotional and energetic experience while in the presence of that other person – to not hold ourselves tightly or tensely in their presence, or be resistant to their impact upon us. I understand “full openness” to be another way of talking about Radical Honesty. And I understand it as an aspect of Conscious Relating. I might be in your presence, and experience irritation, agitation and rejection arising in me. I might feel a joyful, expansive union with you at the energetic level, but little resonance at the physical level. I might feel your presence opens me to unacknowledged trauma... In other words, I feel we can be fully open to others, and deeply, trustingly bonded with them, and even be fully committed to the same Conscious Tribe - without feeling the desire arise in us to engage with them sexually. So if by ´poly + amor´ we mean ´many + love´, then - yes, of course Conscious Tribes are Polyamorous! Or, at least, on the Path of Polyamory – on the path of learning to live in Universal Love together. But if by ´poly + amor´ we actually mean ´poly + sex´ - that is, that the norm of the Conscious Tribe is that everyone relates sexually to everyone else - then no, Conscious Tribes are not intrinsically polyamrous. Let me put it like this: The foundation of the Conscious Tribe is not “being fully open to each other”, it is “being fully open to ourselves” - and within our own, unique experience we might find ourselves quite closed to another person. We might feel threatened by their presence, and a need to protect ourselves. Perhaps this is because we intuit a latent aggression in them (of which, perhaps, they are not even aware) – or perhaps we are projecting on them – re-creating and re-enacting our historical fear of aggression – or perhaps both, or perhaps there´s yet another factor present. But my point here is that “feeling closed” to someone does not contradict the direction of the Tribe – because the foundation is not “being open to each other”. In fact by self-observing, and respecting the fact that we feel closed, and sharing honestly what we´re feeling – we´re affirming the direction of the Tribe, which is “being open to ourselves”. The foundation of the Conscious Tribe is being open to our own, unique experience of the indefinable moment (Radical Honesty) - and communicating that experience from Essence to Essence (Conscious Relating). Conscious Tribes are not founded on the principle of Polyamory. That said, on top of this foundation a Conscious Tribe might structure itself as a combination of monogamous couples and ´single´ individuals; as an entirely polyamorous group; as a mixture of monogamous couples, polyamorous threesomes and foursomes, and some ´single´ individuals - or in whatever way it chooses! That´s for each Conscious Tribe to decide. A WORD OF WARNING & THE FOUNDATIONAL QUESTIONS But (if I may!) a word of warning... I feel that if we are not in love with our own, unique present moment, if we are not seeing everyone (whether we are sexually attracted to them or not) as beautiful, crazy, unique expressions of The Great Mystery - then our Polyamory will not be part of our co-creation of new, alternative, conscious cultures. It will be the perpetuation of the unconsciousness we say we seek to go beyond - a titillating, even thrilling unconsciousness perhaps - a liberation, perhaps; or a healing, even - but it will not, in any direct sense, be the co-creation of new social structures (Conscious Tribes), or a contribution towards the creation of new, conscious cultures. So first things first... And I feel the first thing is learning to live together in openness-to-ourselves – and thus co-creating an energy field of Universal Love - a love that is not physical - that is not even emotional. I see this as an all-day-everyday learning – an existential enquiry that requires our full attention. And to sustain this learning I´d say we need to be continually asking ourselves two foundational questions - which we could phrase like this: Question One: "am I feeling myself inside The Great Mystery in this moment?" No? Then “what do I need to do to return to feeling the Beauty of my Belonging - to re-enter conscious, honouring relationship with my body, my emotions, my surroundings, and my overarching energetic sense of the moment?” Question Two: as I relate to this other person, “am I feeling the Mystery of their Uniqueness, and am I feeling my own?" No? Then “what do I need to do to once again feel both our Difference and our Oneness?” I´d say these are the foundational questions. These are the questions we need to focus on, if we want to co-create qualitatively different cultures. I´d say there is nothing ´wrong´ with Polyamory - but there is nothing ´right´ about it either. In and of itself it can be as conscious or unconscious as Monogamy. The issue is not with how many people we can or can´t relate sexually - but how consciously we relate with everyone - in whatever way we are relating. As I have said, I believe that to form a Conscious Tribe is a noble endeavour - a whole-hearted, all-in commitment to shaping new cultures for ourselves and our descendants. It is to truly walk our talk. And I offer my deepest respects to everyone who takes up the endeavour. Let´s form Tribes - and meet regularly, and explore and practice all of this together. Then we can link Tribes and form Communities. And then link Communities and form new Cultures. Yes. And... I feel we need to be humble, and recognise that we still stumble, and enter denial, and self-deceive, and indulge our addictions, and easily lose our way. So that while we are still learning to live in openess to the moment and each other, and are still obsessed with repetitive thought, and still tend to objectify the world – let us bear in mind that sex can give powerful, temporary relief from our feelings of loneliness and separation... but that that doesn´t mean we need to legislate for it! We don´t need to set up new rules that make it OK to have sex with everyone – as if that would guaranteee the elimination of our feelings of loneliness and separation for good! So again, as I have said: I believe there is a path to be walked – together - and this is where we need to focus. Not on who has sex with whom. Let that be as it may. And if two people want to commit ´to death us do part´ - let that be as it may too. Let´s not be controlled by reactivity to the restrictions of the past! In my opinion, the global megacrisis is intensifying, and the disastrous, self-destructive consequences of our unconsciousness are becoming ever-more self-evident – so let´s, some of us, commit to living as Conscious Tribes. Then, come what may – at least the seeds of new, alternative cultures will be in the ground. THE CELEBRATION OF THE EROTIC And to be clear: I´m not saying “forget about the erotic - first get present!” In my experience, presentness is erotic! Presentness is delicious! Just as absence is dull and numb - presentness-to-the-moment is alive with a thousand flavours! Our return to the natural world, and a more natural way of life, is a return to our connection with the sweatiness of summer, and the wind on our flesh, and our fingers in the wet earth, and all of the smells the disinfected, dominant culture would repress... As we move outside again, and don´t just look at the world through windows, and start to refuse the pornographic seduction of The Inside Life, and remember the contrasting sensations of generationally-forgotten comforts and discomforts – we rediscover our sensual relationship with the Earth. We plant and harvest and cook our own food – and remember the taste of things. Our urine and excrement become fertilisers and compost. We value our piss and shit. We find our bodies again. We don´t feel we have to be clean all the time. We don´t feel we shouldn´t smell. We love our bodies again. We de-domesticate! We love our nakedness - and everyone´s perfect uniqueness. We see the colours of the flowers. We see our own skin. The dawn rises inside us. We soften with the sunset. The full moon becomes a storm inside us, and the dark moon empties us to the stars. We drink water like liquid gratitude, and watching the other creatures drink – we overflow with joy. We see the butterfiles sucking pollen from the flowers. We see the swallows dance in the air. Life is erotic. We are erotic. We are life. As we turn away from artificiality - from the universe of asphalt, plastic and screens – and start to feel the world again, we feel the Mystery of Existence again – and it feels amazing! An energetic pleasure ripples through our bodies! And then meeting each other in The Pleasure of Presentness - our hearts break open with each other´s beauty – we see each other´s innocence and foolishness and kindness and pain – and the breaking of our hearts is a deliciousness beyond compare! So I am not saying “no” to Polyamory. Nor am I saying “yes”. I am saying first things first. As we learn to live in our unique, subjective experience our bodies fill up with The Natural Eroticism Of Presentness. Then we don´t need sex in order to relieve the dullness of our absence. Then - when we make love - our sexual exchanges are needless; a celebration; erotic oneness; love at play; an opening to everything through each other... From Sacred Anarchism to Conscious Localism. I recently wrote, posted and then removed a post entitled Sacred Anarchism. In that post I wrote that I felt The Conscious Tribes Project was morphing into a political movement, and that the working-title of that movement was “Sacred Anarchism”. However - I have since come to feel (1) that The Conscious Tribes Project isn´t morphing into a political movement – that it already is one! And (2) that the name Sacred Anarchism - although a valiant attempt to situate The Conscious Tribes Project within a political context – is problematic in several ways. And by “political” I didn´t-and-don´t mean the whole spiritually and emotionally vacuous, superficial and cruel theatre of politicians and political parties and elections. By politics I mean the values and methods by which a society organizes itself.  After removing that previous post I continued to contemplate where The Conscious Tribes Project might sit on the political axis that stretches from overt and covert, centralized, fascist and communist dictatorships to decentralized, egalitarian, self-determining, local communities – and have settled, for now, on “Conscious Localism”. I feel, as I will now explain, that Conscious Localism expresses the political orientation of the Conscious Tribes Project without any of “the baggage” of either Anarchism or the word “sacred”. And not only that - I feel Conscious Localism captures the intention of The Conscious Tribes Project more accurately.     Why Not Anarchism? Since honouring everyone´s uniqueness, existential equality, decentralization and local community empowerment are fundamental to the Conscious Tribes vision, one might immediately think that Anarchism would be a perfect fit for the Conscious Tribes Project. And just to be clear: anarchy doesn´t mean chaos! The fact that anarchism is synomymous with social chaos in perhaps the majority of people´s minds is, in my opinion, an excellent example of extremely successful collective mind-conditioning (“brainwashing”) by a centralized system seeking to perpetuate its own survival. In actual fact, Anarchism champions individual sovereignty and a deeply humane, egalitarian, mutually-respectful approach to social organization – via a shift from centralized government to co-operation between self-governing local communities. Nevertheless, there remain at least two issues that make Anarchism a difficult fit for the Conscious Tribes Project. Firstly, although there are schools of thought such as Pacifist Anarchism, propounded by such great minds as Leo Tolstoy, many prominent Anarchists have advocated violent means in order to achieve the anarchistic end – associating Anarchism, not unjustifiably, with violence. And although the Conscious Tribes Vision doesn´t prescibe pacifism (that would be up to each Conscious Tribe to decide for itself) – its focus on Concious Relating inclines it towards kind and respectful dialogue.  Furthermore, Conscious Tribes see themselves as “seeds of a conscious culture” - in other words, rather than being focussed on overthrowing a centralized system, they are focussed on embodying and “modeling” (showing by example) the Concious Way of Being that would be the “foundational vibration” of the Concious Culture they seek to co-create. They are very much about “the means being the end”. Why Not Sacred? The other issue that makes Anarchism an awkward fit for the Conscious Tribes Project is its association with atheism. Again – although there are have been open-minded Judeo-Christian Anarchists, and Buddhist and Taoist Anarchists - the vast majority of Anarchist leaders have been passionately anti-religious and devotedly, dogmatically atheistic. Of course, Conscious Tribes aren´t religious. They are, if anything, “spiritual” - if by “spiritual” we mean dedicated to a free-form, experiential enquiry into the nature of our relationship with reality. But again, words like “spiritual” and “sacred” present difficulties – insinuating, as they do, the dualities: spiritual/material and sacred/mundane. And nowhere in the Conscious Tribes Vision, set out in my book “Love & Revolution” do I ever suggest anyone should make such a distinction... I don´t say they should, and I don´t say they shouldn´t. I say “be attentive to your own, actual, felt, present-moment experience. Recognize your absentness. Practice Conscious Relating - and practice conscious action/creativity.” Nowhere do I suggest categorizing anything as sacred-as-against-mundane. If anything - I suggest everything is sacred – and that to see anything as mundane is not to really see it!  Personally, I like the word “sacred”- and for me, on my own life-journey, as I have deepened into feeling my own moment-to-moment reality, I have come to sense an inexplicable miraculousness all around me – a presence that I can only describe as “sacred”. But in order to avoid the word “sacred´s” implicit duality with mundanity, and its associations with religiousness, holiness and other-worldliness, I have chosen to use the word “conscious”. For me, the path of feeling (not thinking) our own, unique, subjective experience of the moment could equally be called “the path of awakening to the sacredness of all things”, or “the path from a foggy, dull, constricted, mind-identified, unconscious life to a bright, joyous, expansive, adventurous, conscious life”. But just as Localism comes without the violence-baggage of Anarchism, Consciousness comes without the holiness-baggage of the word “sacred”. Localism Means Localism I don´t feel I need to elaborate on the term Localism. I think its quite self-evident. I remember reading E. F. Schumacher´s “Small is Beautiful – A Study of Economics as if People Mattered” when I was a teenager. And I still feel his vision is, well – beautiful. The message of embedding our lifestyles in our local landscapes and seasons, valuing inherited local knowledge, depending on local food production and local economies was reinforced for me – again, very beautifully – when I read Helena Norberg Hodge´s “Ancient Futures: Learning from Ladakh” - in which she witnesses the arrival of Globalization in Ladakh, and the consequent dessimation of that people´s profound, sensitive, knowledgable, connected, joyful, ancestral way of life. As I say, I feel the case for Localism needs no elaboration. The technological monoculture of Globalism tears us from the land, and tears our communities apart. Whereas Localism is the way back to the land and each other... The Conscious Localism Manifesto So now that Sacred Anarchism has been re-named Conscious Localism – what exactly does it stand for? Remember – the term is intended as a way of situating The Conscious Tribes Vision within a socio-political perspective. So it´s more specific than just “being conscious” and “going local”. Here are three paragraphs that outline the essential message of Conscious Localism, as I intend it. Here is my Conscious Localism Manifesto... Conscious Localism  is a socio-political movement inspired by the efforts of our ancestors to break free from centralized control, and establish a decentralized culture of cooperation between self-determining local communties - combined with the insights of transpersonal psychology of the last century, and a sensitivity to our belonging to the Earth's ecology and to the Great Mystery of Existence Itself. Conscious Localism encourages people to become aware of their own unique experience of the moment, to relate to each other in that awareness, and to co-create a society based on such conscious relating. In honest self-observation we realize that we are often not consciously aware of our unique experience of the moment, nor are we consciously relating to each other. That is why Conscious Localism   proposes we form small Conscious Tribes, or “extended non-biological families”, dedicated to self-education, and mutual support on the shared path towards a decentralized, nature-embedded society. The vision of Conscious Localism  is that these Conscious Tribes will be the basic social structure of the local communities of a new society. Nineteen Reasons Why I am a Conscious Localist There are a lot of ideas, and a lot of information, compressed into those three paragraphs. So I´ve also drawn up a list of “Nineteen Reasons Why I Am A Conscious Localist”! Here they are... SELF 1a I accept that I only ever experience the present moment. 1b I accept that my experience is unique. 1c I accept that my experience is subjective. 1d The sense that all each of us has is their own unique, subjective experience enables us to co-operate is deep mutual respect, whatever our individual paths, or faiths, or universal views. EXISTENCE 2a I do not consider myself able to make absolute, objective statements about the nature or purpose of Existence. 2b I feel I am part of, or an expression of, the Earth. 2c I feel I am part of, or an expression of, The Great Mystery of Existence Itself. OTHERS 3a I see you in the same existential situation. 3b I consider us existential equals. 3c I see us both as expressions of the Great Mystery of Existence. SOCIETY 4a I am in favour of a culture that embodies all of the above – in terms of individual identity, the way we relate to each other, the way we relate to the world, and the way we relate to existence itself. 4b I believe decentralisation and local community self-determination are a natural consequence of all of the above, and support all of the above. 4c I believe living as integral parts of nature is a natural consequence of all of the above, and supports all of the above. 4d. I understand that the quality of my action will depend entirely on the quality of my consciousness, which is why I am committed to my own education. EDUCATION 5a Although I understand I only ever experience the present moment, I am often absent from the present moment, and therefore need to practice presence . 5b Although I understand we are all unique expressions of existence, I often don´t relate in that awareness, and therefore need to practice aware relating. 5c Although I understand that I am a part of a world I cannot define, I often don´t relate to it as such, and therefore need to pratice conscious action . 5d In order to practice all of the above, I need others who also want to practice all of the above. 5e I undertand that this means a prolonged commitment to each other (Conscious Tribe / non-biological extended family) First Things First: Form A Conscious Tribe So, as you can see, Conscious Localism, as I intend the term, is more than a politcal philosophy, or an intellectual proposition – it is an experiential proposition. It is not a series of beliefs one can wave, like a flag, at others who have a different set of beliefs! It is not designed for armchair debates! It can be explained, yes - but then it needs to be experienced. An intellectual understanding of Conscious Localism is important, but even more important is our commitment to the path of self-education described above. As point 4d says “we understand that the quality of our action will depend entirely on the quality of our consciousness” - so in order to become a beautiful and profound socio-political movement, and to co-create a beautiful and profound new culture - we need to be united beautifully and profoundly. First things first. And the first thing is to form small Conscious Tribes - “non-biological extended families” of ten, twenty, thirty people - committed, as the diagram above shows, to a shared journey of self-education in presentness and conscious relating - and also committed to supporting each other in depending less and less on the unconscious, materialistic, centralized, technological, industrial, anti-natural governmental system - and depending more and more on local foods, local resources, local relationships, and local skills. Conscious Tribes can then link up to form Conscious Local Communities. And structurally, a Conscious Localist Culture would be a co-operative network of Conscious Local Communities. But first things first... Most of us are rushed off our feet, stressed out, and hardly have time to go for a walk in the countryside – let alone consider forming a Conscious Tribe and becoming part of a long-term, self-educating, localizing, socio-political movement! But that´s the challenge! And frankly – it´s just a question of priorities. If (for example) we all agree Wednesday evenings are Conscious Tribe Night, and if we all agree to attend every week – to practice Conscious Relating, to plan and co-create, and support each other, and celebrate - we´ll soon find ourselves united in deep intimacy, and united in a deep sense of shared purpose. In Love & Revolution I offer detailed recommendations for structuring such gatherings, and getting started.  Nothing about Conscious Localism is new. Decentralization, or Localization, is not a new idea. Nor is living more naturally. Presentness isn´t new. Even Conscious Relating isn´t new. I would imagine that everyone who has read to the end of this essay already knows what needs to be done. We just have to do it. And here is a vision, and an actionable plan. We don´t need to buy land together, or all move in together to become a Tribe. We just need to start. And it starts when you speak to a friend and say “how about it? I´m up for it! Del Anarquismo Sagrado al Localismo Consciente. Hace poco escribí, publiqué y luego retiré un post titulado Anarquismo Sagrado. En ese post escribí que sentía que el Proyecto Tribus Conscientes se estaba transformando en un movimiento político, y que el título-de-trabajo de ese movimiento era "Anarquismo Sagrado". Sin embargo - desde entonces, he llegado a sentir (1) que el Proyecto Tribus Conscientes no se está transformando en un movimiento político - ¡que ya lo es! Y (2) que el nombre Anarquismo Sagrado - aunque un valiente intento de situar el Proyecto Tribus Conscientes dentro de un contexto político - es problemático en varios sentidos. Y por "político" no me refería - y no me refiero - a todo el teatro espiritual y emocionalmente vacuo, superficial y cruel de los políticos, los partidos políticos y las elecciones. Por la política entiendo: los valores y métodos por los que se organiza una sociedad.   Después de eliminar ese post anterior continué contemplando dónde podría situarse el Proyecto Tribus Conscientes en el eje político que va desde las dictaduras abiertas y encubiertas, centralizadas, fascistas y comunistas, hasta las comunidades locales, igualitarias, descentralizadas y auto-determinadas - y me he decidido, por ahora, por el "Localismo Consciente". Creo, como explicaré a continuación, que el Localismo Consciente expresa la orientación política del Proyecto Tribus Conscientes sin el "bagaje" del Anarquismo, o de la palabra "sagrado". Y no sólo eso - siento que el Localismo Consciente capta la intención del Proyecto Tribus Conscientes con mayor precisión. ¿Porqué No El Anarquismo? Dado que honrar la unicidad de cada uno, la igualdad existencial, la descentralización y la capacitación de las comunidades locales son fundamentales para la visión de las Tribus Conscientes, uno podría pensar inmediatamente que el Proyecto Tribus Conscientes encajaría perfectamente dentro del Anarquismo. Y para que quede claro: ¡la Anarquía no significa caos! El hecho de que el Anarquismo sea sinónimo de caos social en quizás la mayoría de las mentes de la gente es, en mi opinión, un excelente ejemplo de condicionamiento mental colectivo ("lavado de cerebro") extremadamente exitoso utilizado por un sistema centralizado que busca perpetuar su propia supervivencia. En realidad, el Anarquismo defiende la soberanía individual y un enfoque profundamente humano y mutuamente respetuoso de la organización social - a través de reemplazar el gobierno centralizado por la cooperación entre comunidades locales auto-gobernadas. Sin embargo, hay al menos dos cuestiones que hacen que el Proyecto Tribus Conscientes encaje con dificultad dentro del Anarquismo. En primer lugar, aunque existen escuelas de pensamiento como el Anarquismo Pacifista, propugnado por grandes mentes como León Tolstoi, muchos anarquistas prominentes han abogado por medios violentos para lograr el fin anarquista - asociando el Anarquismo, no injustificadamente, con la violencia. Y aunque la Visión de las Tribus Conscientes no prescribe el pacifismo (eso lo decidiría cada Tribu Consciente por sí misma), su enfoque en las Relaciones Conscientes la inclina hacia el diálogo conectado y respetuoso.   Además, las Tribus Conscientes se ven a sí mismas como "semillas de una cultura consciente" - en otras palabras, en lugar de centrarse en derrocar un sistema centralizado, se centran en encarnar y "modelar" (mostrar con el ejemplo) la Forma de Ser Consciente que sería la "vibración fundacional" de la Cultura Consciente que buscan co-crear. Son muy partidarios de que "los medios son el fin". ¿Porqué No Anarquismo “Sagrado”? La otra cuestión que hace que el Proyecto Tribus Conscientes encaje mal dentro del Anarquismo es su asociación con el ateísmo. De nuevo - aunque han habido anarquistas judeo-cristianos de mente abierta, y anarquistas budistas y taoístas - la gran mayoría de los líderes anarquistas han sido apasionadamente anti-religiosos y devotamente, dogmáticamente ateos. Por supuesto, las Tribus Conscientes no son religiosas. Son, quizás, "espirituales" - si por "espirituales" entendemos dedicadas a una investigación libre y experiencial sobre la naturaleza de nuestra relación con la realidad. Pero, de nuevo, palabras como "espiritual" y "sagrado" presentan dificultades - ya que insinúan las dualidades: espiritual/material y sagrado/mundano. Y en ninguna parte de la Visión de las Tribus Conscientes, expuesta en mi libro "Amor & Revolución", sugiero a nadie que haga tal distinción. No digo que deban, ni digo que no deban. Digo "estate atento a tu propia experiencia, real, sentida, presente. Reconoce tu ausencia. Practica las relaciones conscientes, y practica la acción/creatividad consciente". En ninguna parte sugiero categorizar nada como sagrado-frente-a-mundano. Si acaso - sugiero que todo es sagrado - y que ver algo como mundano es no verlo realmente. Personalmente, me gusta la palabra "sagrado" y, en mi propio viaje vital, a medida que he profundizado en la sensación de mi propia realidad momento-a-momento, he llegado a sentir una milagrosidad inexplicable a mi alrededor - una presencia que sólo puedo describir como "sagrada". Pero para evitar la dualidad con lo mundano implícita de la palabra "sagrado", y sus asociaciones con la religiosidad, la santidad y lo etéreo, he optado por utilizar la palabra "consciente". Para mí, el camino de sentir (no de pensar) nuestra experiencia propia, única y subjetiva del momento podría llamarse también "el camino del despertar a lo sagrado de todas las cosas", o "el camino de una vida inconsciente , nublada, apagada, constreñida e identificada-con-la-mente a una vida consciente , brillante, alegre, expansiva y aventurera". Pero al igual que El Localismo viene sin el bagaje de violencia del Anarquismo, la conciencia viene sin el bagaje de santidad de la palabra "sagrado". Localismo Significa Localismo     No creo que sea necesario explicar el término "localismo". Creo que es auto-evidente. Recuerdo haber leído "Lo Pequeño Es Hermoso - un estudio de la economía como si importaran las personas" de E. F. Schumacher cuando era adolescente. Y sigo pensando que su visión es... bueno: hermosa. El mensaje de integrar nuestros estilos de vida en nuestros paisajes y estaciones locales - valorando el conocimiento local heredado, dependiendo de la producción local de alimentos y de las economías locales - se reforzó para mí... de nuevo, de forma muy hermosa, cuando leí "Ancient Futures: Learning from Ladakh" de Helena Norberg-Hodge – en el cual es testigo de la llegada de la globalización a Ladakh y de la consiguiente desestructuración del modo de vida profundo, sensible, conocedor, conectado, alegre, ancestral de ese pueblo. Como ya he dicho, creo que los argumentos a favor del Localismo no necesitan explicación. La monocultura tecnológica del Globalismo nos separa de la tierra y desgarra nuestras comunidades. Mientras que el Localismo es el camino de vuelta a la tierra, y a la conexión entre nosotros. El Manifiesto del Localismo Consciente Ahora que el Anarquismo Sagrado ha sido rebautizado como Localismo Consciente, ¿qué significa exactamente? Recuerda: el término pretende situar la Visión de las Tribus Conscientes dentro de una perspectiva socio-política. Así que es más específico que "ser consciente" e "ir a lo local". He aquí tres párrafos que resumen el mensaje esencial del Localismo Consciente, tal y como yo lo concibo. He aquí mi Manifiesto del Localismo Consciente... El Localismo Consciente es un movimiento socio-político inspirado en los esfuerzos de nuestros antepasados para liberarse del control centralizado y establecer una cultura descentralizada de cooperación entre comunidades locales auto-determinadas - combinado con los conocimientos de la psicología transpersonal del siglo pasado, y una sensibilidad hacia nuestra pertenencia a la ecología de la Tierra y al Gran Misterio de la Existencia Misma. El Localismo Consciente anima a las personas a tomar conciencia de su propia experiencia única del momento, a relacionarse entre sí en esa conciencia - y a co-crear una sociedad basada en esas relaciones conscientes. Al auto-observarnos honestamente, nos damos cuenta de que a menudo no estamos conscientes de nuestra experiencia única del momento, ni nos relacionamos conscientemente con los demás. Por eso   El Localismo Consciente propone que formemos pequeñas Tribus Conscientes, o "familias extendidas no-biológicas", dedicadas a la auto-educación y al apoyo mutuo en el camino compartido hacia una sociedad descentralizada e integrada en la naturaleza. La visión del Localismo Consciente es que estas Tribus Conscientes serán la estructura social básica de las comunidades locales de una nueva sociedad. Diecinueve Razones Por Las Que Soy Un Localista Consciente Hay muchas ideas, y mucha información, comprimidas en esos tres párrafos. Así que también he elaborado una lista de "diecinueve razones por las que soy un Localista Consciente". Aquí están... EL YO 1a Acepto que sólo experimento el momento presente. 1b Acepto que mi experiencia es única. 1c Acepto que mi experiencia es subjetiva. 1d El sentido de que cada uno tiene su propia experiencia única y subjetiva nos permite cooperar en un profundo respeto mutuo - sean cuales sean nuestros caminos individuales, creencias o puntos de vista universales. LA EXISTENCIA 2a No me considero capaz de hacer afirmaciones absolutas y objetivas sobre la naturaleza, o el propósito de la Existencia. 2b Siento que formo parte de la Tierra, o que soy una expresión de ella. 2c Siento que soy parte de, o una expresión de, El Gran Misterio de la Existencia Misma. LOS DEMÁS 3a Considero que todos estamos en la misma situación existencial. 3b Nos considero iguales existenciales 3c Nos veo a todos como expresiones del Gran Misterio de la Existencia. LA SOCIEDAD 4a Estoy a favor de una cultura que encarne todo lo anterior: en términos de identidad individual, de la forma en que nos relacionamos, de la forma en que nos relacionamos con el mundo, y de la forma en que nos relacionamos con la existencia misma. 4b Creo que la descentralización y la auto-determinación de las comunidades locales son una consecuencia natural de todo lo anterior, y apoyan todo lo anterior. 4c Creo que vivir como partes integrantes de la naturaleza es una consequencia natural de todo lo anterior, y apoya todo lo anterior. 4d. (Tribu Consciente / familia extendida no-biológica) Lo Primero Es Lo Primero: Formar Una Tribu Consciente Así que, como puedes ver, el Localismo Consciente, tal y como yo entiendo el término, es más que una filosofía política o una propuesta intelectual: es una propuesta experiencial. No se trata de una serie de creencias que uno pueda agitar, como una bandera, frente a otros que tienen creencias diferentes. No está pensada para debates de salón. Se puede explicar, sí - pero luego hay que experimentarlo. La comprensión intelectual del Localismo Consciente es importante, pero aún más importante es nuestro compromiso con el camino de auto-educación descrito anteriormente. Como dice el punto 4d "entendemos que la calidad de nuestra acción dependerá enteramente de la calidad de nuestra conciencia" - así que para convertirnos en un movimiento socio-político bello y profundo, y para co-crear una nueva cultura bella y profunda - necesitamos estar unidos bella y profundamente. Lo primero es lo primero. Y lo primero es formar pequeñas Tribus Conscientes - "familias extendidas no-biológicas" de diez, veinte, treinta personas - comprometidas, como muestra el diagrama anterior, con un viaje compartido de auto-educación en la presencia y las relaciones conscientes - y también comprometidas a apoyarse mutuamente para depender cada vez menos de un sistema gubernamental inconsciente, materialista, centralizado, tecnológico, industrial y antinatural - y depender cada vez más de los alimentos locales, los recursos locales, las relaciones locales y las habilidades locales. Luego las Tribus Conscientes podrán unirse para formar Comunidades Locales Conscientes. Y estructuralmente, una Cultura Localista Consciente sería una red cooperativa de estas Comunidades Locales Conscientes. Pero lo primero es lo primero... La mayoría de nosotros vamos corriendo por nuestros días, estamos estresados y apenas tenemos tiempo para dar un paseo por el campo, ¡y mucho menos para plantearnos formar una Tribu Consciente y formar parte de un movimiento socio-político descentralizado, auto-educativo a largo plazo! Pero ¡ese es el reto! Y francamente - es sólo una cuestión de prioridades. Si (por ejemplo) todos estamos de acuerdo en que los miércoles por la noche es la Noche de Nuestra Tribu Consciente, y si todos estamos de acuerdo en asistir cada semana - para practicar las Relaciones Conscientes, y para planificar y co-crear, y apoyarnos unos a otros, y celebrar - pronto nos encontraremos unidos en una profunda intimidad, y unidos en un profundo sentido de propósito compartido. En Amor & Revolución ofrezco recomendaciones detalladas para estructurar estas reuniones, y empezar.   Nada del Localismo Consciente es nuevo. La descentralización, o localismo, no es una idea nueva. Tampoco lo es vivir de forma más natural. La Presencia no es nueva. Incluso Relacionarse Conscientemente no es nuevo. Me imagino que todos los que habéis leído hasta el final de este ensayo ya sabéis lo que hay que hacer. Sólo tenemos que hacerlo. Y aquí tenemos una visión, y un plan factible. No necesitamos comprar un terreno juntos, ni mudarnos todos juntos para convertirnos en una Tribu. Sólo tenemos que empezar. DEPTH AND INTENSITY "Today is a good day to die!" Roman warriors would declare when they went into battle. I can imagine they walked or rode onto the battlefield in what we would call ´an altered state of consciousness´- utterly alert, hyper aware, ´in the zone´, face-to-face with the prospect of death, face-to-face with The Great Unknown. Similarly, I would say, the more we awaken to the indefinable reality of the present moment, the louder we declare "today is a good day to live!" - and we too are ´in the zone´, face-to-face with the uncontrollable, magical mystery of The Great Unknown. I feel that the deeper we go, the more intense life becomes. The shallower our lives, the duller they are. Perhaps most of us live somewhere between the two extremes of divine intensity and bored mundanity. But towards which of these extremes do we choose to direct our lives? In my opinion, the dominant culture pushes us relentlessly towards the extreme of meaninglessness and numbness. It does not promote reverence and gratitude. As I said before, I imagine that if a politician were to extol Universal Love, or Oneness, or the Eternity of the Moment - people would think they´d gone mad! But is that the direction you or I choose to be pushed in? Or do we choose to orientate our lives towards the adventure of the ever-unfolding mystery? Do we choose to say "today is a good day to live!" - and taste and smell and touch the day with wonder? The point I want to make in this chapter is that if we choose depth and intensity, and want to live deeply and intensely together in this world - then I beieve our Groups of Friends need to become Conscious Tribes. True friends are a blessing - no doubt about it! But if we want to stand together before life as the Roman warriors stood before death, then I am saying we need to take friendship to another level - to the level of a shared existential journey, a shared transformational journey, and a journey of shared purpose. SPOKEN AND AGREED I think most people would agree there is an amplification when we unite. When football fans cheer, or we dance together, or pray together, or protest together - our individual cheering and dancing, and praying and protesting is amplified - intensified - by our togetherness. And I feel that, in the same way, when a Group of Friends unites around the intention of becoming more conscious, of opening their hearts through both the pleasure and the pain, and sharing an evolutionary purpose - the depth and beauty of their friendship is amplified. They become what I call A Conscious Tribe. So how, realistically, can we do this? I feel it is very simple: by making agreements! By making strong yet flexible commitments to each other. By disregarding the social norms propagated by the dominant culture (images of friendship as Pizza and Netflix, a helping hand from time to time, and perhaps a shoulder to cry on) - and boldly and bravely defining our own norms, and making agreements that evoke and support our deepest needs - agreements that unite us in the presence of God, or the Goddess, or the Tao, or the Great Mystery Itself - agreements that unite us in honesty and vulnerability, and in passionate purpose. And I mean spoken agreements - not assumed agreements. I mean agreements spoken aloud in each other´s presence – existential and psycho-emotional agreements; agreements on vision, direction and purpose; and practical, organisational agreements. This is not something Groups of Friends usually do, of course. It would be a new departure for almost any Group of Friends - but I believe it would rebirth everyone´s life! EXISTENTIAL AND PSYCH-EMOTIONAL AGREEMENTS There are all sorts of tribes and clans and sanghas and congregations. Many endure for generations by virtue of their fundamentalism, and rigid hierarchy - which keep people bound in faithful obedience. But for those of us who refuse to sacrifice our own perceptions and intuitions, and bow down to dogma - such tribes are not an option. So what are the philosophical, psychological, purposeful and practical agreements a free-thinking Group of Friends would need to make to become an enduring Conscious Tribe? Let´s begin with the existential agreements... The first and last existential agreement I believe we need to make (you won´t be surprised to hear!) - is that each person recognises, for themselves, "all I have is my own, unique experience of the moment". This, for me, as I have repeatedly stated, an honest, obvious, undeniable, inescapable, naked realisation. You see your moment, and I see mine. Neither of us sees it all. Nobody sees my moment as I do. We are all unique. And we are all, therefore, Existential Equals. And as we have also already discussed - the same honesty that leads us to the conclusion of Radical Honesty also leads us to the recognition of our disassociation from our experiencing. With presence comes the recognition of our absence. Our honest self-observation leads us to see our fascination and obsession with thought - and how we tend to live behind a veil of ideas. We also come to see how often we are kidnapped by our emotions - how we don´t “have emotions”, but how “our emotions have us” – making it difficult, if not sometimes impossible, to be with the actuality of the moment. And we see how these thoughts and emotions have entered our blood and cells – how our bodies react in inauthentic, predetermined ways to each other, and to the world. In short: the introspective honesty that leads us to the understanding of Radical Honesty reveals our inability to live our understanding - and the need to bridge that gap – inviting a second agreement: a shared commitement to self-education, to the learning journey. I am sure you can see how these two agreements could unite and deepen and transform the energy field of almost any Group of Friends. Especially if they had precise methods for living these agreements - such as the ones I am suggesting in this book!. Then their agreements wouldn´t just be good ideas, or good intentions – they could be the beginning of a dynamic, profoundly intimate, experiential journey. And then there is the physical dimension – which presents the possibility of an another spoken agreement to unite and energise the new Conscious Tribe still further: agreement on vision, direction and purpose.. AGREEMENT ON VISION, DIRECTION & PURPOSE I began Chapter 2 with these words: “my impression is that many of us share the vision of decentralised, conscious, community-based cultures embedded in nature. But how to make them real? Or another way to put this question might be "how do we weave ourselves together? How do we weave new social fabrics?” And, of course, this whole book is my answer to that question. But more succinctly: it is by Groups of Friends forming Conscious Tribes that share that vision. So here is another agreement I feel we need to make that will transform the depth of our togetherness as friends: commitment to action whose aim is establishing basically-self-sufficient, nature-embedded, local communities. I have spoken about the shared vision of Our Own Great Reset in the chapter “A Shared Vision”, and I have spoken about the need to reclaim our time, and establish local community infrastructures, and adjust our everyday living habits in the chapter “Co-Creating Local Community, The Physical Level”. So I won´t repeat myself. I just want to say that I feel the superficiality of the dominant culture leaves many of us hungry for deep intimacy – so that Gathering as a Tribe and practicing Conscious Relating can sometimes feel like enough in itself. But as I said in the chapter “The First Successful Revolution”, if we only make agreements on the existential and psycho-emotional levels we are basically a support group – supporting each other in surviving the alienation and stress of the dominant culture. And I feel there is no overt, direct, united vision, or united direction, or united purpose in that. So the third agreement I propose to convert Groups of Friends into Conscious Tribes is the socially-engaged commitment to weaving conscious local community. And (as I said in the section “Alignment & Purpose” in the chapter on “Co-creating Local Community”) I feel this physical, material agreement – the agreement to act (not only meditate and share) – is the agreement that brings complete coherence to our being-mind-heart-body, and aligns us, and galvanises our energy - and turns us into “a force of mass creation”! PRACTICAL, ORGANISATIONAL AGREEMENTS Finally, if all of this theory is to become our lived reality, I feel we need to make simple, practical, organisational agreements - like how often we meet, how we structure our time when we meet, how we include the children in the Tribe, and so on. I made lots of detailed recommendations in the chapter “Tribe Gatherings, Recommendations”, but of course, each Group of Friends has to organise its own transition into becoming a Conscious Tribe. I hear the word ´tribe´ being tossed about a lot. Self-development facilitators invite us to "come to such-and-such a workshop, be part of the tribe"; festival organisers promote their events as ´tribal gatherings´, or ´gatherings of the tribe´; trendy clothes designers advertise their trousers and T-shirts as ´tribal chic´, and so on. For me, this is a trivialisation of the term. For me, to become a Conscious Tribe - a non-biological extended family - implies an enormous letting-go of one´s familiar, comfortable isolation. It implies an astoundingly courageous commitment to fully-live one´s deepest understandings. It implies a radical humility and vulnerability. And it implies a panoramic vision that can see beyond the dehumanisation and degradation of the dominant cultural agenda. Perhaps, above all, for me, it implies giving ourselves to each other – and, for me, that implies surrender - it implies means our guiding star is Love. Very possibly, if you´ve been interested enough to read this book until here, you and your friends are already somewhere along the path towards becoming a Conscious Tribe. You probably have your individual existential practices, and endeavour to live as ecologically as you can. Here I´m talking about the next step. I´m talking about the spoken existential/psycho-emotional, vision/direction/purpose and practical/organisational agreements that could turn your Group of Friends into an deeply united, heart-woven, powerfully purposeful force for personal and collective transformation. This is not something that has been tried before. This is a new kind of revolution! Please - talk together about it. Perhaps you´re more ready than you think! PROFUNDIDAD E INTENSIDAD "¡Hoy es un buen día para morir!" declaraban los guerreros romanos cuando iban a la batalla. Puedo imaginarlos caminando o cabalgando hacia el campo de batalla en lo que llamaríamos "un estado alterado de conciencia" - completamente alerta, hiper-consciente, "en la zona", cara-a-cara con la perspectiva de la muerte, cara-a-cara con El Gran Desconocido. De manera similar, diría que cuanto más despertamos a la realidad indefinible del momento presente, más fuerte declaramos "¡hoy es un buen día para vivir!" - y nosotr@s también estamos "en la zona", cara-a-cara con el misterio mágico e incontrolable de El Gran Desconocido. Siento que cuanto más profundizamos, más intensa se vuelve la vida. Cuanto más superficiales son nuestras vidas, más aburridas son. Tal vez la mayoría de nosotr@s vivimos en algún lugar entre los dos extremos de la intensidad divina y el aburrimiento mundano. Pero, ¿hacia cuál de estos extremos elegimos dirigir nuestras vidas? En mi opinión, la cultura dominante nos empuja implacablemente hacia el extremo de la falta de sentido y el entumecimiento. No promueve la reverencia, ni la gratitud. Como dije antes, imagino que si un@ polític@ ensalzara el Amor Universal, o la Unidad, o la Eternidad del Momento - ¡la gente pensaría que se había vuelto loc@! Pero, ¿es esa la dirección en la que tú o yo elegimos ser empujad@s? ¿O elegimos orientar nuestras vidas hacia la aventura del misterio-en-desarrollo-constante? ¿Elegimos decir "hoy es un buen día para vivir" - y saborear, oler y tocar el día con asombro? El punto que quiero plantear en este capítulo es que si elegimos profundidad e intensidad, y queremos vivir profunda e intensamente junt@s en este mundo - entonces creo que nuestros Grupos de Amig@s necesitan convertirse en Tribus Conscientes. L@s amig@s verdader@s son una bendición, ¡no hay duda al respecto! Pero si queremos permanecer junt@s ante la vida como los guerreros romanos ante la muerte, entonces estoy diciendo que necesitamos llevar la amistad a otro nivel - al nivel de un viaje existencial compartido, un viaje transformacional compartido, y un viaje de propósito compartido. DICHO Y ACORDADO Creo que la mayoría de la gente estaría de acuerdo en que hay una amplificación cuando nos unimos. Cuando l@s aficionad@s del fútbol aplauden, o bailamos junt@s, o rezamos junt@s, o nos manifestamos junt@s - nuestro aplauso y baile y rezo y manifestación individuales se amplifican - se intensifican - por nuestra unión. Y siento que, de la misma manera, cuando un Grupo de Amig@s se une en torno a la intención de volverse más conscientes, de abrir sus corazones a través del placer y el dolor, y compartir un propósito evolutivo - la profundidad y la belleza de su amistad se amplifican. Se convierten en lo que yo llamo Una Tribu Consciente. Entonces, ¿cómo, de manera realista, podemos hacer esto? Creo que es muy simple: ¡llegando a acuerdos! Haciendo compromisos fuertes pero flexibles entre nosotr@s. Haciendo caso omiso de las normas sociales propagadas por la cultura dominante (imágenes de amistad como Pizza y Netflix, una mano que ayuda de vez en cuando, y tal vez un hombro en el que llorar), y definiendo con valentía y audacia nuestras propias normas, y llegando a acuerdos que evoquen y apoyen nuestras necesidades más profundas - acuerdos que nos unan en presencia de Dios, o la Diosa, o el Tao, o el Gran Misterio Mismo - acuerdos que nos unan en honestidad y vulnerabilidad, y en un propósito apasionado. Y me refiero a acuerdos hablados - no a acuerdos asumidos. Me refiero a acuerdos hablados en voz alta en presencia de los demás: acuerdos existenciales y psico-emocionales; acuerdos sobre visión, dirección y propósito; y acuerdos prácticos y organizativos. Esto no es algo que los Grupos de Amig@s hagan habitualmente, por supuesto. Sería un nuevo punto de partida para casi cualquier Grupo de Amig@s y posiblemente – ¡haría renacer la vida de tod@s! ACUERDOS EXISTENCIALES Y PSICO-EMOCIONALES Hay todo tipo de tribus, clanes, sanghas y congregaciones. Muchas perduran durante generaciones en virtud de su fundamentalismo y su rígida jerarquía - que mantiene a la gente atada a una fiel obediencia. Pero para aquell@s de nosotr@s que nos negamos a sacrificar nuestras propias percepciones e intuiciones, y a inclinarnos ante el dogma - esas tribus no son una opción. Entonces, ¿cuáles son los acuerdos filosóficos, psicológicos, en cuanto a propósito, y prácticos que un Grupo de Amig@s librepensadores necesitaría hacer para convertirse en una Tribu Consciente duradera? Empecemos con los acuerdos existenciales... El primer y último acuerdo existencial que creo necesitamos hacer (¡no te sorprenderá saberlo!) - es que cada persona reconoce, por sí misma "lo único que tengo es mi propia y única experiencia del momento". Esto, para mi, como he afirmado repetidamente, es un reconocimiento honesto, obvio, innegable, ineludible y desnudo. Tú ves tu momento y yo veo el mío. Ningun@ lo ve todo. Nadie ve mi momento como yo lo veo. Tod@s somos únic@s. Y, por lo tanto, tod@s somos iguales existencialmente. Y, como ya hemos comentado - la misma honestidad que nos lleva a la conclusión de la Honestidad Radical también nos lleva a reconocer la disociación de nuestra experiencia. Con la presencia llega el reconocimiento de nuestra ausencia. Nuestra auto-observación honesta nos lleva a ver nuestra fascinación y obsesión por el pensamiento - y cómo tendemos a vivir detrás de un velo de ideas. También llegamos a ver con qué frecuencia somos secuestrad@s por nuestras emociones - cómo no “tenemos emociones”, sino cómo “nuestras emociones nos tienen a nosotr@s” - lo que hace que sea difícil, incluso a veces imposible, estar con la actualidad del momento. Y vemos cómo estos pensamientos y emociones han entrado en nuestra sangre y células - cómo nuestros cuerpos reaccionan de maneras predeterminadas e inauténticas entre sí, y con el mundo. En resumen: la honestidad introspectiva que nos lleva a la comprensión de la Honestidad Radical revela nuestra incapacidad de vivir esta comprensión - y la necesidad de superar la brecha - lo que invita a un segundo acuerdo: un compromiso compartido con la auto-educación, con el viaje de aprendizaje. Estoy seguro de que puedes ver cómo estos dos acuerdos podrían unir, profundizar y transformar el campo energético de casi cualquier Grupo de Amig@s. ¡Especialmente si tuvieran métodos precisos para vivir estos acuerdos - ¡como los que estoy sugiriendo en este libro! Entonces sus acuerdos no serían solo buenas ideas, o buenas intenciones - podrían ser el comienzo de un viaje dinámico, profundamente íntimo, experiencial. Y luego está la dimensión física - que presenta la posibilidad de otro acuerdo verbal para unir y dinamizar aún más a la nueva Tribu Consciente: un acuerdo sobre visión, dirección y propósito. ACUERDOS SOBRE VISIÓN, DIRECCIÓN Y PROPÓSITO Comencé el Capítulo 2 con estas palabras “mi impresión es que much@s de nosotr@s compartimos la visión de culturas descentralizadas, comunitarias, conscientes, arraigadas en la naturaleza. Pero, ¿cómo hacerlas realidad? Otra forma de plantear esta pregunta podría ser "¿cómo nos entretejemos? ¿Cómo tejemos nuevos tejidos sociales?" Y, por supuesto, este libro entero es mi respuesta a esa pregunta. Pero, más sucintamente: es a través de Grupos de Amig@s que forman Tribus Conscientes que comparten esa visión. Así que aquí hay otro acuerdo que creo que debemos hacer y que transformará la profundidad de nuestra unión como amig@s: un compromiso con acción cuyo objetivo es establecer comunidades básicamente-auto-suficientes, integradas-en-la-naturaleza, locales. He hablado sobre la visión compartida de Nuestro Propio Gran Reseteo en el capítulo “Una Visión Compartida”, y he hablado sobre la necesidad de recuperar nuestro tiempo, y establecer infraestructuras comunitarias locales, y ajustar nuestros hábitos de vida cotidiana, en el capítulo “Co-Creando La Comunidad Local - El Nivel Físico”. Así que no me repetiré. Sólo quiero decir que siento que la superficialidad de la cultura dominante deja a much@s de nosotr@s hambrient@s de intimidad profunda - de modo que reunirse como Tribu y practicar las Relaciones Conscientes a veces puede parecer suficiente en sí mismo. Pero como dije en el capítulo “La Primera Revolución Exitosa”, si sólo hacemos acuerdos en los niveles existencial y psico-emocional, somos básicamente un grupo de apoyo - apoyándonos mutuamente para sobrevivir a la alienación y el estrés de la cultura dominante. Y siento que en eso no hay visión ni dirección ni propósito abiertos, directos, unidos. Así que el tercer acuerdo que propongo para convertir a los Grupos de Amig@s en Tribus Conscientes es el compromiso social con tejer la comunidad local consciente. Y (como dije en la sección “Alineación y Propósito” en el capítulo sobre “La Co-creación de la Comunidad Local”) siento que este acuerdo físico, material – el acuerdo de actuar (no solo meditar y compartir) – es el acuerdo que aporta coherencia completa a nuestro ser-mente-corazón-cuerpo, y nos alinea, y galvaniza nuestra energía – y nos convierte en ¡“una fuerza de creación masiva”! ACUERDOS PRÁCTICOS, ORGANIZATIVOS Finalmente, si toda esta teoría se va a convertir en nuestra realidad vivida, siento que necesitamos hacer acuerdos simples, prácticos y organizativos – como la frecuencia con la que nos reunimos, cómo estructuramos nuestro tiempo cuando nos reunimos, cómo incluimos a l@s niñ@s en la Tribu, y así sucesivamente. Hice muchas recomendaciones detalladas en el capítulo “Encuentros de la Tribu, Recomendaciones”, pero por supuesto, cada Grupo de Amig@s tiene que organizar su propia transición para convertirse en una Tribu Consciente. Escucho mucho la palabra “tribu”. Los facilitadores del desarrollo-personal nos invitan a “venir a tal-o-cual taller, a ser parte de la tribu”; los organizadores de festivales promocionan sus eventos como “encuentros tribales” o “reuniones de la tribu”; los diseñadores de ropa de moda anuncian sus pantalones y camisetas como de “elegancia tribal”, y así sucesivamente. Para mí, esto es una trivialización del término. Para mí, convertirse en una Tribu Consciente – una familia extendida no-biológica – implica un enorme soltar del aislamiento familiar y cómodo. Implica un compromiso asombrosamente valiente de vivir plenamente las propias comprensiones más profundas. Implica una humildad y vulnerabilidad radicales. E implica una visión panorámica que pueda ver más allá de la deshumanización y degradación de la agenda cultural dominante. Tal vez, sobre todo, para mí, implica entregarnos un@s a otr@s – implica la rendición – implica que nuestra estrella-guía sea el Amor. Es muy posible que, si has tenido suficiente interés como para leer este libro hasta aquí, tú y tus amig@s ya estéis en algún punto del camino hacia convertiros en una Tribu Consciente. Probablemente tengáis vuestras prácticas existenciales individuales y os esforzáis por vivir de la forma más ecológica posible. Aquí estoy hablando del siguiente paso. Estoy hablando de los acuerdos existenciales/psico-emocionales, de visión/dirección/propósito, y prácticos/organizacionales que podrían convertir a vuestro Grupo de Amig@s en una fuerza profundamente unida, de corazones tejidos, y poderosamente propositiva para la transformación personal y colectiva. Once upon a time, there lived a Mr Winli Bishmi, and a Mrs Kwipin Bishmi, who were wise and true - even though being wise and true wasn´t easy under A.I.´s rule. You had to be quite tricky, and streetwise - and extremely careful. Winli and Kwipin loved philosophy. Wherever they were, and whenever it was - they would chatter and laugh endlessly about the relativity of time and space. And in honour of this relativity, they named their daughter ´Maybe´. And whenever they could, Winli and Kwipin would take Maybe on outings, out of Smart City 250 - to see trees, or watch the ants, or the seagulls. Oh, how she loved the trees, and the ants, and the seagulls! She has no idea how illicit and risky these trips were. She grew up innocent and happy; unaware you were supposed to despise the filthy soil, the contagious creatures, and the undisinfected air outside Smart City limits. Maybe was a magical child - as if blessed. When she told you her name, the air sparkled with magic. The gay way she said it, made you sense that everything, ultimately, was beyond definition - a great mystery - and that that was something delightful, not terrifying. II As they do for everyone - the years passed. Maybe grew into womanhood - and although she was sterile, like everyone else, she became eligible to parent a lab baby of her own. The offer came as an email, straight into her neo-cortex, via her nano-neurochip-implant - and Maybe replied instantly, just by thinking: "yes! yes! yes!" A few years previously, in a car accident, Maybe had been saved by an airbag. She owed her life to that airbag. And in its honour, when she was asked, as all would-be-parents were, which particular genetic modifications she had chosen (from the catalogue) for her child-to-be, she answered, humbly "I want my child to have an airbag in its forehead, just in case of an accident, or some other dangerous event - might that be possible?" "But of course, Madam" said the Modifications Clerk, who himself had been empathically enhanced, and custom-designed with enhanced typing skills. And so, once again, once upon a time: Wallop Bishmi was born, and Maybe raised him with all the kindness in her heart. It wasn´t, however, until adolescence, when a pimple appeared in the whereabouts of his third eye, that any sign of the airbag appeared. Maybe kept a keen eye on that pimple - and sure enough: it grew, and grew, and grew. The other adolescents teased Wallop abysmally; and Wallop would wander alone, along the clifftops, just north of Smart City 250, feeling sorry for himself, and angry with his mother. "Of all of the modifications available in the catalogue - why did she have to get me this custom-made monstrosity?" And Wallop would thump his fist against the great bulge that protruded from his forehead, resentfully - giving himself a headache. And then, one day, once again upon a time: Wallop saw a girl, who saw him. Her name was Wololoo Crisplow. Her parents had suffered great cold as children, and asked for her to have white fur - like a Polar Bear. Wallop saw beyond her unfortunate modification, and she saw him beyond his. They saw each other´s essence. And that´s called Love. And though, as you will now hear, chaos was about to break out in Smart City 250 - events only made their Love grow stronger. Their one-and-only frustration was that they couldn´t kiss - because Wallop Bishmi´s custom-designed airbag got in the way. Oh, how their lips longed for each other! Oh, how delicious was that longing! That too, only made their Love grow stronger... III Now: it was at just around this time that Love was officially banned, and decrees issued for the arrest of anyone caught in the act of feeling Love. As was typical in Smart City 250, neighbours would betray each other enthusiastically. They would phone A.I. at Smart City Central, and tell tales such as "I saw my neighbour look suspiciously-affectionately at her dog!", or "I noticed my neighbour breathing the morning air, as if she was loving it!" And everywhere you went, people would walk around with deliberately-unloving expressions on, just in case. It was in this enthusiastic, idealistic atmosphere that Anti Love Mobs would tear through the crowds in Downtown 250 - beating up suspiciously gentle-looking individuals, and individuals who seemed happy doing nothing. Other mobs would cause chaos at concerts where people would be shamelessly, almost rebelliously, expressing their Love of Music. Others would lay in wait for daring Lovers to slip out at night; and ambush them - and hurt them badly. Wallop and Wololoo tried to stay as far away from it all as they could. In fact, both thought it best they stay as far away from each other as they could. Which they did. But that wasn´t very far, because they were like sunshine for each other, and besides - the longing in their lips was like a conversation, and it only spoke about meeting. Which they did, from time to time, very secretly, with the greatest care, up on the cliffs to the north of Smart City 250. IV And so it was, one fateful night upon a time, that Wallop Bishmi and Wololoo Crisplow were lying side by side upon the clifftop grass in the moonlight; listening to the waves in the stoney bay below; smiling into each other´s eyes - and laughing as they imagined the most ludicrous of modifications... when, like hounds on the scent, a mob of Anti Love Fundamentalists came upon them in their happiness. "Look, it´s The Pimple Monster and Polar Bear Girl" the mob mocked - and they spat upon them, and laughed mightily. Then they picked them up, and thew them about like tennis balls (most had enhanced arm strength, it was a very popular choice). Until... soon... somehow... from somewhere - a chant took hold of the mob. "Over the cliff with them! Over the cliff!" went the chant, ¨Over the cliff! Over the cliff!" And over the cliff they went. Down, down and down went Wallop Bishmi and Wololoo Crisplow. Down and down they flew, like eagles, like angels. Down and down they drifted, as if in slow motion - knowing only the Love they shared, holding each other softly. Until: ka-splat!!! They hit the big stones in the bay below. And Wallop´s airbag burst open - and saved them from certain death. Then the bag deflated, and detached - as if knowing its destiny was complete - leaving Wallop and Wololoo face to face, lips to lips, for the first time. And they kissed, and kissed, and kissed. Érase una vez un tal Señor Winli Bishmi, y una tal Señora Kwipin Bishmi, que eran sabi@s y verdader@s - a pesar de que ser sabi@ y verdader@ no era fácil bajo la gobernanza de la I.A.. Tenías que ser bastante espabilad@ y callejer@, y extremadamente cuidados@. A Winli y Kwipin les encantaba la filosofía. Dondequiera que estuvieran, y fuera el que fuera el momento - charlaban y se reían sin cesar sobre la relatividad del tiempo y el espacio. Y en honor a esta relatividad, llamaron a su hija `Quizás´. Siempre que podían, Winli y Kwipin llevaban a Quizás de excursión, fuera de Ciudad Inteligente 250 - para ver los árboles, u observar a las hormigas, o a las gaviotas. ¡Ay, cómo amaba los árboles, las hormigas y las gaviotas! Ella no tiene idea de lo ilícitos y riesgosos que eran estos viajes. Creció inocente y feliz - sin darse cuenta de que se suponía debías despreciar el suelo sucio, las criaturas contagiosas, y el aire no-desinfectado fuera de los límites de la Ciudad Inteligente. Quizás era una niña mágica - como si hubiera sido bendecida. Cuando te decía su nombre, el aire brillaba con magia. La forma feliz en que lo decía te hacía sentir que todo, en última instancia, estaba más allá de cualquier definición; que todo era un Gran Misterio - y que eso era algo encantador, no aterrador. II Como lo hacen para tod@s, los años pasaron. Quizás se convirtió en mujer, y aunque era estéril, como tod@s l@s demás - llegó a ser elegible para criar un bebé de laboratorio propio. La oferta llegó como correo electrónico, directamente a su neo-córtex, a través de su nano-neurochip-implante - y Quizás respondió al instante, sólo pensando: "¡Sí! ¡Sí! ¡Sí!" Unos años antes, en un un accidente de carretera, Quizás había sido salvada por un airbag. Ella le debía su vida a ese airbag. Y en su honor, cuando se le preguntó, cómo se les preguntaba a toda la gente a punto de ser padres, exactamente qué modificaciones genéticas había elegido (del catálogo) para su futur@ hij@, ella respondió, humildemente: "Quiero un hijo, y que tenga un airbag en la frente - en caso de un accidente, o algún otro evento peligroso - ¿sería posible?" "Pero, por supuesto, señora", dijo el Secretario de Modificaciones, quien había sido mejorado empáticamente, y diseñado-a-medida con técnicas de teclado mejoradas. Y así, una vez más “érase una vez”: Wallop Bishmi nació, y Quizás lo crió con toda la bondad de su corazón. Sin embargo, no fue hasta la adolescencia – con la aparición de un grano en el lugar de su tercer ojo – que se vió el primer signo del airbag. Quizás mantuvo un ojo atento a ese grano, y efectivamente: creció y creció y creció. L@s demás adolescentes se burlaron de Wallop abismalmente. Wallop vagaba solo, recorriendo los acantilados, justo al norte de Ciudad Inteligente 250, sintiendo lástima por sí mismo, y enojado con su madre. "De todas las modificaciones disponibles en el catálogo, ¿porqué tuvo que conseguirme esta monstruosidad hecha-a-medida?" Y Wallop golpeaba su puño contra la gran protuberancia que sobresalía de su frente, con resentimiento - dándose dolor de cabeza. Hasta que, un día impredecible, como todos los demás - Wallop vio a una chica. Y ella lo vio a él. Su nombre era Wololoo Crisplow. Sus padres habían pasado muchísimo frío cuando eran niñ@s, y pidieron que tuviera un pelaje blanco, como un oso polar. Wallop la vió más allá de su modificación desafortunada, y ella lo vió más allá de la suya. Vieron la esencia del/de la otr@. Y eso se llama El Amor. Y aunque, como ahora escucharás, el caos estaba a punto de estallar en Ciudad Inteligente 250 - los eventos solo hicieron que su Amor se fortaleciera. Su única frustración era que no podían besarse, porque el airbag diseñado-a-medida de Wallop Bishmi se interponía. ¡Ay, cómo se anhelaban sus labios! ¡Ay, qué delicioso era ese anhelo! Eso también, solo hizo que su Amor se fortaleciera... III Ahora: fue justo alrededor de esos días, que El Amor fue oficialmente prohibido, y se emitieron decretos para el arresto de cualquier persona atrapada en el acto de sentir Amor. Como era típico en Ciudad Inteligente 250, l@s vecin@s se traicionaban un@s a otr@s con entusiasmo. Llamaban a la I.A. de Ciudad Inteligente Central, y contaban historias como "¡Vi a mi vecina mirar sospechosamente-cariñosa a su perro!", o "¡Noté a mi vecina respirando el aire de la mañana - como si le encantara!" Y dondequiera que fueras, la gente caminaba con expresiones deliberadamente-poco-amorosas, por si acaso. Fue en este ambiente entusiasta, idealista que las Turbas Anti Amor destrozarían a las multitudes en el centro comercial de Ciudad Inteligente 250 - golpeando a individuos de aspecto sospechosamente-gentil, y a individuos que parecían felices sin hacer nada. Otras turbas causaban caos en los conciertos donde la gente expresaba descaradamente, casi con rebeldía, su Amor por la Música. Otros esperaban a que los Amantes atrevidos se escaparan por la noche - y les emboscaban, y les herían gravemente. Wallop y Wololoo trataron de mantenerse lo más lejos posible de todo esto. De hecho, amb@s pensaban que era mejor que se mantuvieran lo más lejos posible el un@ del otr@. Cosa que hicieron. Pero eso no era muy lejos, porque eran como el sol el un@ para el/la otr@ - y además, el anhelo en sus labios era como una conversación - que solo hablaba de encontrarse. Y lo hacían, de vez en cuando, muy en secreto, con el mayor cuidado, en los acantilados al norte de Ciudad Inteligente 250. IV Y así fue, una noche fatídica... érase una vez... que Wallop Bishmi y Wololoo Crisplow yacían un@ al lado del/de la otr@ sobre la hierba de la cima del acantilado, a la luz de la luna - escuchando las olas en la bahía de piedra abajo; sonriendo a los ojos del/de la otr@ - y riendo mientras imaginaban la modificaciones más ridículas... cuando, como sabuesos siguiendo un olor, una Turba de Fundamentalistas Anti Amor l@s encontró en su felicidad. "Mira, es El Monstruo del Grano y la Chica Oso Polar", se burló la turba - y los escupieron, y se rieron como gigantes. Luego los cogieron, y los tiraron como pelotas de tenis (la mayoría tenía la fuerza de los brazos aumentada - era una opción muy popular). Hasta... que... de algún modo... desde algún lugar... un canto se apoderó de la multitud. "¡Por el acantilado con ell@s! ¡Por el acantilado con ell@s!", decía el cántico. Y por el precipicio fueron. Abajo, abajo y abajo fueron cayendo Wallop Bishmi y Wololoo Crisplow. Abajo y abajo volaron, como águilas, como ángeles. Abajo y abajo se desplazaban, como en cámara lenta, conociendo solo el Amor que compartían, abrazándose suavemente. Hasta: ¡¡¡ka-splat!!! Se golpearon contra las grandes piedras abajo en la bahía, y el airbag de Wallop se abrió – salvándoles de la muerte segura. El airbag se desinfló y se desprendió - como si supiera que había cumplido con su destino - dejando a Wallop y Wololoo cara a cara, labios a labios, por primera vez. LA REVOLUCIÓN NO EXITOSA Según como lo veo yo, todos l@s revolucionari@s aspiran a derrocar lo que consideran opresión y abuso, e instalar un régimen que consideren más humano, más solidario, un régimen que prometa respeto y justicia. En última instancia, cualquiera que sea el "ismo" superficial de una revolución en particular, ya sea Rusa (1917), China (1911), Francesa (1789-1799), Estadounidense (1775-1783), Cubana (1953-1959) o Iraní (1979), en sus corazones, todos l@s revolucionari@s creen que están del lado del bien. ¿Qué significa eso? En última instancia, yo diría es que creen que están del lado del Amor Universal. Sobre esta base, podemos decir que ninguna revolución en la historia humana ha tenido éxito - en la medida en que ninguna revolución ha logrado establecer con éxito el Reino del Amor Universal en la Tierra. ¿Por qué no - en mi opinión? Porque hasta ahora ningún grupo de revolucionari@s ha sido entrenado adecuadamente para mantener su capacidad de Amor Universal. Hasta ahora, ningún grupo de revolucionari@s ha preparado adecuadamente su conciencia para una empresa tan épica. Hasta ahora, ningún grupo de revolucionari@s ha contemplado siquiera la posibilidad de que el éxito a largo plazo del nuevo régimen que pretenden instalar dependa enteramente del grado en que ell@s mism@s, y la gente en general - habiéndose educado no sólo psico-emocionalmente, sino espiritual o existencialmente - hayan llegado a ser capaces de elegir consistentemente el Amor Universal. TONTERIAS IDEALISTAS Para aquell@s de nosotr@s que tienen poca o ninguna experiencia de la transformación de su propia psique y conciencia, estas palabras pueden sonar (en el mejor de los casos) como divagaciones idealistas y utópicas, o (en el peor de los casos) como una absurda locura espiritual. Incluso aquell@s de nosotr@s que hemos experimentado una transformación personal, o una sanación, o un despertar de algún tipo, podríamos preguntarnos si las revoluciones políticas y la evolución de la conciencia son de algún modo compatibles. Mis amig@s - mis hermanos, y hermanas, y hermanos no-binarios, y todos los demás, sea como sea que quieras concebirte - en mi opinión, aunque pueda llevar generaciones: es solo una cuestión de educación. Sin embargo: dudo mucho que sea una educación que la cultura dominante del mundo fundamentalistamente-materialista, de corazón mecánico y violentamente-eficiente nos ofrezca. ¿Por qué alimentaría su propio derrocamiento? Creo que nutrir la conciencia que nos permite elegir el Amor Universal es nuestro principal acto revolucionario. Cultivar la capacidad de reconocer la elección existencial, momento-a-momento, entre defender y promover nuestro propio pequeño espectáculo de ego, o actuar en nombre del todo - y cultivar la capacidad de actuar en función de esa elección - debe convertirse en nuestro compromiso diario, auto-educativo, auto-transformador, revolucionario. Y para mí, esto no es un asunto privado. L@s sociólog@s hablan de "la privatización de la espiritualidad": la eliminación de las preocupaciones abiertamente espirituales/existenciales del mercado y de la arena política. "Si quieres, medita en privado", es el mensaje "pero guárdatelo para ti. ¡Y por favor, no lo traigas a la oficina!" ¡No! ¿Cómo podemos cultivar la conciencia y el Amor Universal sol@s? Nos necesitamos. Necesitamos comunidades. Y digo "comunidades" y no "grupos de apoyo", porque los grupos de apoyo se pueden incorporar de manera fácil y ordenada a la cultura global dominante, IA-enamorada, tecno-intoxicada, producción-y-progreso hechizada, y centralización, CCTV y control obsesionada. "¡Claro, haz un poco de curación por tu cuenta! ¿Por qué no? ¿Qué daño puede hacer? ¡Sólo no llegues tarde al trabajo mañana por la mañana!". Personalmente, ¡me niego a que me segreguen de esa manera! Creo que hay circunstancias que favorecen la evolución de la conciencia y circunstancias que la frustran... Comunidad local. Relaciones profundas. Responsabilidad por nuestra localidad. Contacto con la naturaleza - con los árboles, los animales, los insectos y los pájaros... con el clima, con las lunas crecientes y menguantes, con los equinoccios y solsticios. Tiempo libre, tiempo de inactividad, días festivos. Celebración, agradecimiento, gratitud. Alimentos locales sin veneno. Agua sin veneno. Creatividad y contribución (en contraposición a la esclavitud asalariada). Creo que todo esto favorece la evolución y transformación de la conciencia - y que el asfalto, las luces de la calle, el ruido del tráfico, la comida de plástico, el trabajo-trabajo-trabajo, y el entretenimiento basura, escapista no. Así que aquí veo un segundo compromiso revolucionario: ajustar nuestros estilos de vida de manera que respalden y mejoren nuestro compromiso revolucionario primario (el desarrollo de nuestra capacidad de elegir el Amor Universal). AMOR UNIVERSAL Entonces, ¿qué es el Amor Universal? Creo que tod@s ya lo sabemos. Sabemos lo que Bob Marley quiso decir cuando cantó "un amor, un corazón - juntémonos y sintámonos bien". Tod@s sabemos lo que significa cuando, en un gran auditorio, miles y miles de personas agitan una luz (su luz única) - y se balancean juntas, en una gran unidad. Conocemos el Amor Universal. También creo que no sabemos cómo acceder a él a voluntad (¡sin el apoyo de un auditorio, o de hongos mágicos!), ni cómo sostenerlo - cómo vivir en él. Y también creo que es la energía revolucionaria más radical y desaprovechada de la Tierra. Según mi entender, el Amor Universal no es un amor romántico. No está enfocado ni fijado en una persona en particular. ¡Ni siquiera te tiene que gustar alguien para amarl@ - universalmente! El Amor Universal no es personal. Va más allá de la persona y la personalidad. Es el Amor que surge cuando nos mantenemos presentes en nuestra experiencia única del momento... una y otra y otra vez... y nuestro sentido de nosotr@s mism@s como conciencia se vuelve sólido e incuestionable – y nos reconocemos como una energía constante y espaciosa que existe más allá de nuestra personalidad siempre-cambiante. Entonces, cuando miramos a los ojos de otra persona, nos vemos a nosotr@s mism@s. Frases como “somos uno” ya no son teóricas. La clase económica de otra persona, su nivel educativo, su raza, su sexo, su edad – todo en ell@s puede ser diferente a nosotr@s… Pero miramos a sus ojos y sentimos su dolor, sus luchas, su necesidad de ser comprendid@s, su necesidad de ser amad@s, sus anhelos – y sentimos que ell@s son nosotr@s, en una situación-de-personalidad diferente. El sentimiento es (y olvídate por un momento de si crees en la reencarnación o no) el sentimiento es: “estoy encarnad@ como yo – pero igualmente, ¡podría estar encarnad@ como ell@s!” Y luego mirando a tod@s a nuestro alrededor sentimos “podría ser cualquiera. ¡Cualquiera podría ser yo!” Y vemos que cada persona refleja aquello-que-tod@s-somos de manera única e irrepetible. El conocimiento-sentido del yo como conciencia, como algo que está por encima y más allá de nuestras identidades familiares, cotidianas y culturalmente condicionadas (y que surge naturalmente a través de la Honestidad Radical) es, creo, un requisito previo para la experiencia del Amor Universal. No para vislumbrarlo, sino para la capacidad de sostenerlo - y elegirlo una y otra vez. Y el otro es el conocimiento-sentido de los condicionamientos y heridas de nuestras personalidades únicas - que pueden crear obstrucciones, interferencias y resistencias a nuestro Amor Universal hasta que se los reconozca y se les brinde un cuidado tierno. Así que, tal como yo lo veo, nuestro currículo de educación masiva, profundamente personal y a la vez colectivo, debe ser: - convertirnos en expert@s en sentir la diferencia entre la-conciencia-que-somos y nuestras maravillosas y a-menudo-heridas personalidades condicionadas - fortalecer nuestra capacidad de vivir como conciencia, en Amor Universal - aprender a expresar la-conciencia-que-somos a través de nuestras personalidades únicas – y alinear nuestros estilos de vida con el Amor Universal. Esto puede sonar místico, lejano, inalcanzable - pero no creo que lo sea. Creo que es solo una cuestión de voluntad, y educación. Y aprecio que no estemos acostumbrad@s a escuchar de la Honestidad Radical y la conciencia y el Amor Universal y la descentralización y la reconstrucción comunitaria y revolución - todo al mismo tiempo. Y aunque imagino que absolutamente todo lo que estoy diciendo aquí ya se ha dicho en otras partes - mi intención es unir estos diversos elementos existenciales, psicológicos, sociales y políticos en una narrativa coherente - de modo que (sin importar el tiempo que lleve) podamos compartir una claridad absoluta en cuanto a nuestra dirección. Y personalmente, en términos de nuestra presencia humana en la Tierra - ¡no veo por qué deberíamos fijarnos un objetivo menor! En los próximos capítulos presentaré la Práctica de Relaciones Conscientes, que considero una práctica educativa hermosa, expansiva, íntima, erótica, potente, transformadora - y una práctica excelente para fortalecer la unidad y enfoque iniciales de la Tribu Consciente. La presentaré como una práctica entre dos personas, y luego como una práctica para toda la Tribu. Por supuesto, puedes hacer la Práctica de Relaciones Conscientes de inmediato - con un@ amig@ o pareja, tal vez - ¡no tienes que esperar hasta cuando tengas tu Tribu! EN CONCLUSIÓN En conclusión, creo que la mayoría de las revoluciones de la historia, si no todas, han tenido intenciones buenas, incluso amorosas - pero l@s revolucionari@s no han estado bien equipad@s para establecer regímenes que perpetuarían sus intenciones más profundas y sinceras. En mi opinión, hoy nos enfrentamos a una situación global que exige una revolución global. Nuestros líderes son totalmente hipócritas - predican el ecologismo mientras modifican genéticamente nuestros alimentos y fumigan nuestros cielos; y predican la libertad y la igualdad mientras aprietan continuamente el control centralizado, absoluto, impersonal y digital. Nos están llevando sin consulta a una distopía tecnócrata, transhumana de ciudades inteligentes... Pero, ¿somos l@s revolucionari@s que necesitamos? Incluso si, mañana, las fuerzas armadas del mundo de repente depusieran sus armas y bombas, y se dieran la vuelta y dijeran "¡basta!" - ¿seríamos capaces de establecer y mantener culturas imbuidas de nuestras intenciones más profundas y sinceras? ¿Seríamos capaces de co-crear culturas imbuidas de Amor Universal? Mi respuesta es - ¡no! Porque nosotr@s mism@s no vivimos en Amor Universal. Como he dicho, creo que las raíces de nuestra revolución deben estar en la auto-educación. Esto no significa que nos quedemos sentad@s en grupos de apoyo, viviendo los estilos de vida con los que estamos familiarizad@s. ¡Absolutamente no! La necesidad de auto-educarnos no es una excusa para la inacción. Ya he compartido mi opinión de que, además de auto-educarnos, simultáneamente debemos movilizarnos en la dirección de la descentralización, de la comunidad local, de dejar de depender de la cultura dominante, de la auto-suficiencia, de la recapacitación y, quizás sobre todo, de reincorporarnos al mundo natural - porque todo esto crea el entorno óptimo para aprender a vivir en el Amor Universal. Por último, quiero repetir una distinción que hago a menudo entre comunidad y Tribu. Una comunidad local puede estar formada por varios miles de personas. Tal vez más. Pero como la presencia y el Amor Universal se cultivan en la intimidad - y como, obviamente, es imposible tener intimidad con tanta gente – dentro de nuestras comunidades necesitamos Tribus. Necesitamos Tribus - grupos de diez, veinte o treinta personas que se conozcan bien, que se sientan cercan@s, que se reúnan regularmente, que se ayuden, y se apoyen mutuamente para aprender a vivir junt@s en el Amor Universal - para convertirse en l@s revolucionari@s capaces de la Primera Revolución Exitosa. * Mark Josephs, "Mark el Activista Místico" Aragón, España, Verano 2024. UNSUCCESSFUL REVOLUTION As I see it, all revolutionaries aim to overthrow what they see as oppression and abuse, and install a regime they believe is more humane, more caring - a regime that promises respect, and fairness. Ultimately - whatever the surface ´ism´ of a particular revolution - whether Russian (1917), Chinese (1911), French (1789 - 1799), American (1775 - 1783), Cuban (1953 - 1959), or Iranian (1979) - in their hearts, all revolutionaries believe they are on the side of goodness. What does that mean? In the last analysis, I´d say that what it comes down to is that they believe they are on the side of Universal Love. On this basis we can say that no revolution in human history has ever been successful - in as much as no revolution has ever successfully established the Reign of Universal Love on Earth. Why not – in my opinion? Because until now, no set of revolutionaries has ever been adequately trained in sustaining their capacity for Universal Love. As yet, no set of revolutionaries has adequately prepared their consciousness for such an epic endeavour. Until now, no set of revolutionaries has even contemplated the possibility that the long-term success of the new regime they seek to install will depend entirely on the degree to which they themselves, and people in general - having educated themselves not only psycho-emotionally, but spiritually or existentially - have become able to consistently choose Universal Love. IDEALISTIC TWADDLE To those among us who have little or no experience of the transformation of their own psyche and awareness, these words might sound (at best) like idealistic, utopian ramblings, or (at worst) like absurd spiritual-lunacy. Even those of us who have experienced personal transformation, or healing, or awakening of some sort might wonder whether political revolutions and the evolution of consciousness are in any way compatible. My friends - my brothers and sisters and non-binary siblings and everyone else, however you might like to think of yourself – in my opinion, even though it might take generations: it is only a question of education. However: I doubt very much that it´s an education the fundamentalistically-materialistic, machine-hearted, violently-efficient mainstream world culture will offer us. Why would it nurture its own overthrow?! I believe that nurturing the consciousness that enables us to choose Universal Love is our primary revolutionary act. Cultivating the capacity to recognise the moment-to-moment existential choice between defending and promoting our own little ego show, or acting on behalf of the whole - and cultivating the capacity to act on that choice - needs to become our daily, self-educational, self-transformational, revolutionary commitment. And for me, this is not a private matter. Sociologists talk about "the privatisation of spirituality" - the removal of overtly spiritual/existential concerns from the market place and from the political arena. "Meditate in private, if you like" is the message, "but keep it to yourself. And please don´t bring it to the office!" No! How can we cultivate consciousness and Universal Love alone? We need each other. We need communities. And I say ´communities´ and not ´support groups´, because support groups can be easily, neatly bolted onto the A.I-infatuated, techno-intoxicated, production-and-progress-obsessed, centralisation and CCTV and control-obsessed, global mainstream. "Sure, do a little healing on the side! Why not?! What harm can it do?! Just don´t be late for work tomorrow morning!" Personally, I refuse to be segregated like that! I believe there are circumstances that favour the evolution of consciousness, and circumstances that thwart it.... Local community. Deep relationships. Responsibility for our locality. Contact with nature - with the trees, the animals, the insects and birds... with the weather, with the waxing and waning moons, with the equinoxes and solstices. Time out, down time, holy-days. Celebration, appreciation, gratitude. Local, poison-free food. Poison-free water. Creativity and contribution (as against wage slavery). I believe all of these things favour the evolution and transformation of consciousness - and that asphalt, street lights, traffic noise, plastic food, work-work-work, and junk, escapist entertainment don´t. So here I see a second revolutionary commitment: to adjust our lifestyles in ways that support and enhance our primary revolutionary commitment (the development of our capacity to choose Universal Love). UNIVERSAL LOVE So what is Universal Love? I believe we all already know. We know what Bob Marley meant when he sung "one love, one heart - let's get together and feel alright". We all know what it means when, in a huge auditorium, thousands upon thousands of people wave a light (their unique light) - and sway together, in one great oneness. We know Universal Love. I also believe that we don´t know how to access it at will (without the support of an auditorium, or magic mushrooms!), nor how to sustain it - how to live in it. And I also believe it is the unharnessed, most radical revolutionary energy on Earth. As I understand it, Universal Love is not romantic love. It is not focused or fixated on one particular person. You don´t even have to like someone to love them – universally! Universal Love is not personal. It goes beyond the person and the personality. It is the Love that arises when we stay present to our unique experience of the moment... on and on and on... and our sense of ouselves as consciousness becomes solid and unquestionable – and we recognise ourselves to be a consistent, spacious energy that exists beyond our ever-changing personality. Then, when we look into another´s eyes, we see ourselves. Phrases like “we are one” are then no longer theoretical. Somebody else´s economic class, their educational background, their race, their sex, their age - everything about them might be different from us... But we look into their eyes and feel their pain, their struggles, their need to be understood, their need to be loved, their longings - and we feel that they are us, in a different personality-situation. The feeling is (and forget for a moment whether you believe in reincarnation or not) the feeling is: “I am incarnated as me - but equally, I could be incarnated as them!” And then looking around at everyone we feel “I could be anyone. Anyone could be me!” And we see each person reflects that-which-we-all-are uniquely, irrepeatably. The felt-knowing of self as consciousness, as above and beyond our familiar, everyday, culturally-conditioned identities (which arises naturally via Radical Honesty) is, I believe, one prerequisite for the experience of Universal Love. Not for glimpsing it, but for the ability to sustain it - and choose it again and again. And the other is the felt-knowing of our unique personality´s conditionings and woundings – which can create obstructions and interferences and resistances to our Universal Loving until they are acknowledged and given tender care. So as I see it, our profoundly personal yet collective, mass-educational curriculum needs to be: - to become expert at feeling the difference between the-consciousness-we-are and our wonderful and often-wounded, conditioned personalities - to strengthen our ability to live as consciousness, in Universal Love - to learn to express the-consciousness-we-are through our unique personalities - and align our lifestyles with Universal Love. This might sound mystical, far off, unattainable – but I don´t believe it is. I believe it is just a question of will, and education. And I appreciate that we are not acccustomed to hearing about Radical Honesty and consciousness and Universal Love and decentralisation and community reconstruction and revolution – all at the same time. And although I imagine that absolutely everything I am saying here has been said elsewhere - my intention is to unite these diverse existential, psychological, social and political elements in one coherent narrative – so that (however long it takes) we can share absoulte clarity as to our direction. And personally, in terms of our human presence on Earth – I don´t see why we should set ourselves a lesser goal! In the next chapters I will be presenting the Practice of Conscious Relating which I feel is a beautiful, expansive, intimate, erotic, potent, transformative, educational practice – and an excellent practice for strengthening the initial unity and focus of the Conscious Tribe. I will be introducing it as a practice between two people, and then as a practice for the whole Tribe. You can, of course, do the Practice of Conscious Relating right away - with a friend or partner, perhaps – you don´t have to wait until you are a Tribe! IN CONCLUSION In conclusion – I beleve most, if not all, of history´s revolutions have been well-intended - lovingly-intended, even - but that revolutionaries have been ill-equipped to establish regimes that perpetuated their most profound and heartfelt intentions. Today, in my opinion, we are faced with a global situation that calls for a global revolution. Our leaders are utterly hypocritical - preaching greenness while genetically modifying our food and spraying our skies; and preaching freedom and equality while continuously tightening the grip of centralised, absolute, impersonal, digital control. We are being conveyed without consultation into a technocratic, transhuman, smart-city dystopia... But are we the revolutionaries we need? Even if, tomorrow, the armed forces of the world all suddenly put down their guns and bombs, and turned around and said "enough!" - would we be able to set up and maintain cultures imbued with our most profound, heartfelt intentions? Would we be able to co-create cultures imbued with Universal Love? My answer is - no! Because we ourselves don´t live in Universal Love. As I have said, I believe the roots of our revolution need to be in self-education. This doesn´t mean we sit around in support groups, living the lifestyles with which we are familiar. Absolutely not! The need to self-educate is not an excuse for inaction. I have already shared my opinion that as well as self-educating, simultaneously, we need to mobilise ourselves in the direction of decentralisation, of local community, of letting go of our dependency on the dominant culture, of self-sufficiency, of re-skilling and, perhaps above all, of re-embedding ourselves in the natural world - because all of this creates the optimum environment for learning to live in Universal Love. Finally, I want to repeat a distinction I often make between community and Tribe. A local community might consist of several thousand people. Perhaps more. But since presentness and Universal Love are cultivated in intimacy - and since, obviously, it´s impossible to be intimate with that many people - within our communities we need Tribes.
